video from the same drills btw

Why are there pre-made roads at the beach landing? Wouldn't it make sense to make the exercise as realistic as possible? Also, the air defence systems showcased are scrap metal in the modern theatre. Is Egypt planning to replace them?

Israel upgraded Turkey's F-4. Maybe the upgrade wasn't available to Egypt?

After the last incidents, I don't suppose Egypt and Turkey will come to the edge of a likely conflict. What both state will do is to improve relations and trade.
That is impossible with curent leadership, for Sisi Erdogan will always be the Ikwan creeping in the shadows waiting for a power grab and for Erdogan Sisi will always be the hated secular military that he feared and decapitated with the Ergenekon trials.
Those 2 hate each other.

The Egyptian navy is undergoing quite the modernization. I dont think it will be enough however to properly defend the two Mistrals. Its weird because usualy states purchase the neccesary fleet to support such vessels but Egypt buying the Misrals off the shelf like that caused for a massive gap in their supporting fleet to utilize these vessels properly.

Is there any interest in buying dedicated AAW frigates?

besides AAW, i get the gist why suddenly Egypt asking for Pohang class from South Korean, they are in dire need of ASW corvettes or frigates. The Mistral as their capital ships need to be protected from layered multi dimensional threat and the current Egypt Navy in my opinion still can't provide such high end comfort for the Mistral. Thus they are justify the buying spree of Freem and this Bergamini class along with four unit of Gowind class corvettes including to outsourcing as much as vessels they can, it is all to protect their Mistral class LPD. But surely i found the Egyptian Navy is still in lacking for other type of vessels, including Oiler and Replenishment ships, tug boat, submarine tender and so on.

I found this situation almost similar with Indonesian Navy in medio late fifty to early sixty.

After a few ignorant replies let me explain to you what is happening in the EGYPTIAN NAVY in the upcoming few years ...

Mistrals are a good opportunity to acquire such ships with their assault capabilities.... specially in a region where militia and chaos is spreading so fast ....

then there is a new model of the Egyptian Navy
it is divided to northern fleet ( in the Mediterranean ) and southern fleet in the Red Sea .... each one has 1 mistral as a command and control ship ... ( knowing that Egyptian Mistrals has GPS and Glonass systems) and supported with secured communications through the Egyptian Military Communications Satellite ( TIBA-1 ) ....

let’s explain simply to the common IQ people .....

consider the following strike group

1 Mistral
2 TYPE-209 subs
2 Perry class Frigates
2 Gowind corvette with MICA ADS
1 Fremm Pergamini with Aster-15 /30 ADS
1 MEKO 200 with MICA NG VLS ADS .
1 MKIII Ambassador FAC

this will allow AD umbrella varies in range from 10 KM up to 120 KM going through 60 and 70 KMs .

The question for reasonable and rational thinking members for serious discussions.... is this strike group protected enough or what do think ...!?

IMO make MKIII 2 for each group since they had pretty good self protection which can protect a flotilla too.
Drop OHPs, there won't be a need of only strike groups but also individual ships, or other task groups. Also they are old.
Drop Gowinds, Increase number of MEKO to 2. Don't know when MICA NG will be delivered but spare gowinds for other task groups or to replace MKIII at open seas.

1 FREMM (French) for ADS
2 MEKO for point defense, MRADS - ASW. If needed +2 Gowind for same roles if 2 LHD exists in flotilla.
2 Ambassador for self defense, SHORAD (to be replaced with Gowind at open seas)
+ Logistic ship.

Spare other ships for other task groups.

Sure , the perry class is recently upgraded ..... and yes we need another Fremm aquintain with its advanced ASW .... now there is only one belongs to the northern fleet .

we need to consider that Egypt will acquire 4 MEKOs ..... and at least 2 Fremm Pergamini ... and if the mega deal goes on ... they will be 6 Fremm Pergamini ....

and if there is another Fremm aquantine
1 Mistral
2 Pergamini Frigates
2 MEKO Frigate
1 Fremm Aquantin ( ASW)
2 Subs
2 Ambassdors or 2 Gowinds according to the mission .
+ logistic ships .

I believe this is what is called a STRIKE GROUP.

Tbh, I wasn't expecting the Italians to remove ECM and ELINT/COMINT equipment. And if they just left 16 VLS cells instead of 32, then the Italians got a killing deal. The Egyptians can always select aftermarket ECM gear if they want from Thales for example.

They give critical parts only to Nato partner or strategic partners. I don't think Thales Netherlands will give them such system.
