bit of extra mayo on this…

geograph-4978720-by-Neil-Theasby-1.jpg

During peak propaganda these things were in every town on billboards. "TURKEY" is the biggest text on it. No one was seeing "TURKEY" thinking great stuff. Erdogan played a big role in destroying Turkeys image. He's not entirely to blame, but he made it exceptionally easy to stigmatise Turkey with negative properganda.

"By then Vote Leave had shown its TV election broadcast repeatedly on different channels over four weeks, starting on 23 May. Beginning with lurid graphics representing the immigration threat of Turkey "

"The new information published by the DMCS committee shows how Facebook propaganda complemented this broadcast. While Vote Leave’s hundreds of Facebook advertisements included a wide range of issues, the largest cluster focused on immigration, Turkey and the linked £350 million claim, and widely re-used graphics and images from the broadcast in material posted to targeted subsets of users."

"In this differentiated propaganda, on the one hand immigration was presented as an example of ‘taking back control’ with the abstract theme of excessive numbers of migrants, and on the other as the threat of large numbers of new migrants arriving from undesirable places like Turkey"

"The focus on Turkey and the Balkan countries played into racist stereotypes: the otherness of people from distant, poor (and in Turkey’s case) Muslim-majority countries hardly needed labouring. It implied hostility towards Turks and Albanians in the UK, who had already experienced racism.
It also implied hostility towards more than three million EU citizens by creating a threat to their residence rights and exposing them to the ‘hostile environment’ which May had created for migrant."

I would argue that England is maybe one of the least racially prejudiced countries in Europe and i would actually argue that the UK is the most important nation in europe and Turkeys image is mostly trash here. It was really the last 10 years of erdogans rule that did the most damage.

Lavrion camp harboring PKK

Soylu further spoke on the terrorist activities and crossings in and out of Greece and especially the Lavrion camp.

"We have notified Greek authorities regarding the number and names of PKK terrorists and their activities,” he said, explaining that the Lavrion camp serves as a base for terrorists and a point from where they cross over to northern Iraq. “Without this camp, there would have been less participation in the PKK."

Greece has long been accused of being a favorite hideout for terrorists, from the DHKP-C to the PKK. Those fleeing Turkey have taken shelter in refugee camps in Lavrion near Athens under the guise of asylum-seekers, especially in the 1980s. Despite the closure of Lavrion in 2013 amid pressure from Turkey, Greece continues to be the primary destination for DHKP-C terrorists.

Athens has also rejected Ankara’s extradition requests for terrorists from groups advocating armed insurgency against the state and those involved in armed attacks against Turkish security forces and political parties, in addition to other targets.

So now that Azerbaijan is a Russian ally and satellite state like Armenia, how is this going to affect the Turkish energy hub project? Russia can just use those pipelines to control EU energy supply.

Defense Industry Cooperation Agreement signed with Congo

Military Framework Agreement and Defense Industry Cooperation Agreement were signed between Turkey and Congo.

Very good. Congo has a rich elite that bought their guns and weapons from France and the United States for years now.

Macron wont like this. We may see 'terrorist attacks' or regime change soon in Congo.

Every nation that seals important agreements with Turkey, gets nailed by foreign powers (Sudan, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Libya, Syria etc).

Thats why the drone inventory of our 'brothercountry' Azerbaijcan excists for 97% of Israeli drones and only 3% Turkish drones.

Aliyev is to cowardly to buy Turkish weapons.

Aliyev has a hard job and a hard geography to navigate in. He knows the limits of Turkish and Azeri power and he plays the game accordingly with the cards he's been dealt, this is how you win in the long term.

Its like standing on a raft, he cant go to one side too much and certain conditions means he needs to tilt in one direction more then the other. But if the raft stays afloat for long enough he will have reached his destination.

Aliyev should organize a referendum to join Turkey like Russia organized a referendum in Crimea.

In the log run, better for Aliyev and Azerbaijan and better for Turkey.

Turkey is a heavy expanding militairy power, but we need resources and Lebensraum to keep our militairy at the same level.

The whole world will recognize it if Azerbaijcan freely joins us. Far much better than annexing North Syria or North Iraq.

Not really
Aliyev had another card of acting as a pressure point against Iran; which would be way too beneficial for the US. Moreover, Azerbaijan can be a new source of energy and gas for Europe after Russia and the necessary infrastructure is already in place

From how I see it, Aliyev just wanted to preserve the victory in Nagorno Karabagh; which isnt a bad idea but with this, he became a proxy to Russia. Since Azerbaijan now became an Ally to Russia, it can never hurt Russia such as by selling their gas to EU! Just read Lavrov recent statements about how the EU wont be able to find alternatives to Russian gas and that they will come back and ask Russia for gas.

Putin literally ensured that the only possible competitor is out and he will control the Western energy markets

Should be the long term ambition, but Turkey really needs another 10 to 15 years of military developments to be strong enough that should Azerbaijan decide to do such a thing no one will intervene against it. Both Russia and Iran would fear Azerbaijan joining Turkey and i suspect they would violently oppose it together, like wise the europeans wouldn't want to see a stronger Turkey form. So basically the west, east and middle east would all try to stop it.

Likewise if the Kurds in northern Iraq knew how to behave, they should have been pushing to join a federal system as part of Turkey. Not looking for independence with the aim to destabilise the surrounding Kurdish regions. An autonomous kurdish region under the Turkish aegis.

The same should really happen for northern Syria too, a separate Syrian autonomous state under Turkey. Turkey has to lead not for any egotistical reasons but for the reality of her historic responsibility and current capabilities comparative to those around her.

The europeans have the EU. The anglo-american world have the english speaking world. China is 1.2 billion, India another 1.2 billion. Russia is trying to create a euroasian state of potentially 300 million people. Only Sunni muslims and middle easterners keep fighting each other and dividing among each other more and more.

Why would anyone join Turkey while its being ruled by the religious right wing fraction?

Just to reiterate, this affects the pipeline from Azerbaijan being considered by EU. The alternatives are Spain, Qatar + KRG (Whom Qatar are investing in) or East Med. Secondly, Sanctions on Russia are going to affect Turkey's trade, projects e.t.c with Russia, like Nuclear, this is why Turkey is against sanctions. It has nothing to do with whatever trash Kalin is saying. I guess finally, those engines, wheat from Ukraine are also a supply shock.

Quite a masterful stroke from Russia, causing more frustration with the West for Turkey.

I don't think the agreement means much. We have signed "agreements for cooperation" with Russia before.

My best guess is that Aliyev agreed to sell Russian oil through Azerbaijan, thus allowing Russia to bypass some of the sanctions and possibly also agreed to not permitting NATO bases on Azerbaijani soil. I'm more curious what Russia promised us in exchange, since for all the faults of our government, we are traditionally known to pursue a very maximalist position to grab the biggest possible slice.

Maybe Russia flushes out the remains of Armenian troops from Karabakh or Karabakh wholly goes back under Azerbaijani jurisdiction? Hard to say.

I don't think this will affect Azerbaijan's alliance with Turkey in the slightest because Russia seems to tolerate Turkey's presence for the time being.

43 points in the document:

7. The Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan refrain from any actions that, in the opinion of one of the Parties, damage the strategic partnership and allied relations of the two states. To this end, they are establishing a permanent mechanism of consultations through the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries.

17. The Parties refrain from any actions, including those carried out through third states, directed against each other.

23. The Parties, attaching great importance to sustainable development and the effective use of the economic potential of both states, will cooperate in the implementation of economic reforms, promote the implementation of the Action Plan on the development of key areas of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation signed on 1 September 2018 in order to deepen economic interaction between the two countries, create favorable conditions for the free movement of goods and services in accordance with the obligations arising from bilateral and multilateral agreements, and in order to promote regional economic cooperation.

31. The Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, working closely to stimulate international energy cooperation and strengthen global energy security on an equal and mutually beneficial basis, intend to deepen cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, including the field of exploration and development of oil and gas fields, transportation of energy resources, the implementation of efficient infrastructure projects, as well as the areas of alternative and renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

41. The Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to deepen mutual ties in the fields of culture and art, education, science, tourism and sports, promote the establishment of ties between public and youth organizations, educational organizations and educational institutions, innovation centers, and the media in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

It's much more in depth than the document signed with Turkey.

Azerbaijan needs the goodwill of Russia, its simply pragmatic to keep them happy and not overly in favour of Armenia. Armenia is a Russian proxy / client state at worst and at least a CTSO member at best. And cooperation with Turkey wont change the fact that Russia is the dinosaur sitting across the border.
