Honestly well worth the price and effort. It might be second-hand handouts but these are still capable vehicles and force multiplier in an army that absolutely lacks them.

They were designed for Gendarmerie duties, not so much as APC's.

It beats driving in old Wranglers or Humvees. I rather drive in these for protection then the aformentioned utility role vehicles. Greece didnt really have them at all therefore these are very good additions for them.

Guardians were active in Afghanistan and Irak. Mobility is superior to Greek M113 fleet.

The 1200 M1117 ASV Guardian granted by the USA to Greece at the cost of transporting only the wheeled vehicles which is estimated at less than 1 million euros

Not bad..
From nothing it is not bad but to adequately protect the territorial integrity of the country in this area we need something better than the 1200 M1117 ASV Guardian. These ASVs are used with 20 years of service. We need something better in terms of technical specifications and with fewer years of service. For example, since we are not allowed to buy weapons systems from China and Russia, we could take the evolution of the M1117 ASV Guardian which is the Textron Tactical Armored Patrol Vehicle as it provides better electro systems and heavier shielding. But unfortunately we are going to be comfortable with something free that is also inferior and not by putting a little hand in our pocket for something better. The issue is that like Greece we had to find something deterrent for the amphibians FNSS PARS III 8X8.4X4 & 6X6 but also for the FNSS ACV-15 where Turkey has thousands. With the M1117 ASV Guardian you can not have a strong deterrent, especially when Turkey has entered the phase of upgrading the FNSS ACV-15.

On the way the first 44 M1117 ASV Guardian, in a few hours will be in the hands of the Greek Army.
The 44 M1117 ASV Guardian were US military vehicles stationed in US camps in Germany. They have never seen a battle, which makes them "new".
Due to some delays regarding the receipt of the armored vehicles, Greece lost valuable used material (wireless transceivers, weapons, etc.) that could be included with their receipt. The main weapon of the vehicles is the grenade launcher Mk19, as well as two machine guns, a 12.7 mm M.2HB, and a 7.62 mm FN MAG. If Greece had moved earlier, the weapons would have been left in the vehicles. However, they were removed because, according to the strict laws of the USA, it is not possible to leave weapons left in "yards" of used material. We do not know how many vehicles their free weapons were released from, but it is certainly a number that costs the Greek Armed Forces. There were many who said that Greece should buy something else, without of course naming an alternative. With the money of the Greek taxpayer there are many solutions, but none for free. All vehicles do not have wireless transceivers so they will have to be purchased to be fitted to the 1200 M1117 ASV Guardian that will come in total. There are Greek companies that make such equipment as Intracom Defense, EFA Group and MILTECH. The cost of each new Mk19 grenade launcher is 17,000 $. If you multiply that by 1,200 you get a cost of 20 million $, without discounts. With discounts due to mass order we are talking about less than 12-14 million euros. The 12.7 mm M.2HB and 7.62 mm FN MAG machine guns are available in quantities in the Greek Army, the FN MAGs may need some modification at the base to be placed in the vehicles. M1117 ASV Guardian vehicles want transportation costs from the USA to Greece. Unfortunately, the Greek state is to blame for this because many vehicles that were on European territory were "lost". Fortunately, there are many such vehicles in California but the cost of shipping has skyrocketed in recent months. Again, the cost for each vehicle, to come to Piraeus or another port (eg Volos), reaches 10,000 to 15,000 $. That is less than 20 million $ for transportation from the USA. If we add up all these extra costs, then the Greek Army will have to spend 80 to 90 million euros for new wireless transceivers, new machine guns, new bombers and transportation. Of course, they will not need that much, because the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, during his last visit to the USA, secured some weapons. Greece will either buy the others or find them in its weapons depots. That is, at a very reasonable cost (estimated at around 40 million euros), Greece will acquire 1,200 vehicles with ceramic shielding, weapons and radios. The completion of the receipt of the vehicles is expected to take place within 2022. The valuation of the 1,200 M1117 ASV Guardian is 960,000,000 $ if purchased. Each vehicle, even today, sells for 800,000 $. The MEXAS ceramic protection of the M1117 ASV Guardian is superior to the protection of the Turkish MRAP design as their protection is of the category STANAG 4569 Level 3 & 4 while MEXAS is used up to MBT. If anyone is knowledgeable about Turkish MRAP let them know their opinion.

Turkey have a few vehicles that have boron-carbide composite armour. Infact Nurol produces composite armour in Turkey and has exported to many countries.

NMS 4X4 is developed to have modular composite armour
FNSS PARS 4x4 has light weight modular composite armour that doubles as floatation aid as well.

M117 Guardian does have good protection, but it's not outworldly especially to those in Turkish inventory.
