Turkey's new provocation against Greece: Navy Students “Swim to Kastelorizo”

Speaking at the military academy on Christmas Eve, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar provocatively stated that “even a student of the Turkish military academy could go swimming to Kastelorizo”.

The Greek island of Kastelorizo is only 1,950 metres from Asia Minor, and in opposition to international law, Ankara claims a maritime zone around the island.

However, he did not stop at the words, but proceeded to another provocative move with Greece as the main recipient.

A provocative video posted on the official pages of the Turkish Ministry of Defense shows students of the National Defense University swimming to the island of Tuzla , which – symbolically – is 1,950 meters away from the school.

On Christmas Eve, Akar had provocatively stated: “At a distance of 1,950 metres is Kastellorizo. 1,950 metres!”

“A student of the military academy can get there by swimming. For us, normal swimming is 2,000 meters in the academy.

“We are talking about an island of 10 square kilometres.

“For this island they claim a sea area of 40,000 sq.m. When we say no to this they characterise us as ‘expansive’.”

“We are waiting for them to understand that with such actions and such rhetoric they will not get anywhere.”

Greece oficially never claim this.
Greece is firmly dedicated to the principle of peaceful resolution of disputes based on international law, the acceptance of the general mandatory jurisdiction of the International Courts , while has signed and ratified the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982).
So, Kastelorizo complex, has the same continental self and EEZ rights as mainland.
Kastelorizo EEZ dispute, can easy solve in an International court.
Turkey denied all the above, because knows that International law is against her and in case of Trial will lose.

Turkey's stance on Greece "is the epitome of irrationality," Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday after meeting with his visiting Saudi Arabian counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al Saud, in Athens.

Its rhetoric against Greece "has reached a level we have not seen for years," Dendias noted, while the neighboring country is intent on misrepresenting the truth and any sense of International Law, including the Law of the Sea. "It threatens Greece with war if we apply the inalienable right of expanding our territorial waters, as is explicitly foreseen by the International Law of the Sea," Dendias said.

"Turkey has lined up across our islands the largest landing force and largest landing fleet in the Mediterranean while demanding that we demilitarize our islands - in other words, that we relinquish our recognized right to self-defense, as foreseen in the UN Charter," he added.

Instead, Turkey should prove its faith in International Law practically, by starting to implement it. "One of the simplest and fastest implementations would be the immediate retraction of the casus belli and the immediate recognition of the nullity of the so-called Turkish-Libyan memorandum," he stressed.

Greece and Saudi Arabia are committed to protecting and defending International Law of the Sea and the freedom of navigation, Dendias said, while both countries are committed to peace and stability in countries like Iraq, Libya and Syria, and in supporting the principle of non-intervention in domestic issues of third countries.

Among other issues discussed, the Greek FM said that a Saudi Arabian delegation would visit the developing region of Thrace and the port city of Alexandroupoli, while he also expressed appreciation for the Arab country's intention to establish an economic affairs office in Athens, an example of the closer relationship the two countries are fostering and the intention to promote Saudi investments in Greece. The strengthening of this relationship is also significant in the sense that "the Arabian peninsula comprises a bridge between the Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific region," Dendias pointed out.

Athens shrugs off Turkish allegations (I add that it doing with perseverance and patience, as befits modern diplomacy)

A day after Turkey accused Greece of “pursuing provocative rhetoric and activities,” the Foreign Ministry in Athens shrugged off the allegations as paradoxical and accused Ankara of challenging the country’s territorial integrity.

Greece remains committed to its respect for international law and to the protection of the country’s national interests,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexandros Papaioannou said in a statement in Greek Wednesday.

It is paradoxical that a country that has repeatedly over the past few days issued a number of aggressive statements through the lips of government officials who are directly threatening Greece and who even question its territorial integrity, would accuse our country of [engaging in] ‘provocative rhetoric and activities’,” he said.

Papaioannou said that “Greece will continue to build ties with neighboring and other countries in the context of respect for international law and good neighborly relations,” and urged Turkey to “respect these fundamental principles.

He added that Greece will continue to strengthen its alliances and partnerships, emphasizing that these are only designed to serve defensive objectives.

Greece makes no unlawful unilateral claim and it maintains its legal right to self-defense in line with the Charter of the United Nations,” the Greek diplomat said.

Calm down everyone please. Do not behave aggressively. This topic, despite creating tensions, will remain, but if the insults and threats continue, it will be deleted. Whatever geopolitical, religious and ideological controversies you have, you have come to the appropriate topic to express them, always with respect to your interlocutor.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stated their support for the Greek minority of Imvros, an Aegean island that forms part of the Republic of Turkey, on Sunday during the annual New Year’s event of the Imvros Association of Athens.
Nikos Dendias also spoke on the issue of equal rights for the Greek minority of the small Aegean island, calling on Turkey to respect Article 14 of the Treaty of Lausanne which calls for guarantees for the population of the island.

Too late.....
Treaty provisions relating to administrative autonomy for Imbros(and Tenedos)
and protections of minority populations was never implemented by Turkey.
The result was a significant decline in the Greek population of the island. The Turkish census of 1927 states that the island's population was exclusively Greek Orthodox and numbered 6762.
A Turkish documentary of 2013, Rüzgarlar (Winds), by Selim Evci, is focused on the discriminatory turkish government policies of the 1960s against the Greek population.
Policies such as....
  • the closure of the Greek schools
  • τhe destruction of churches
  • compulsory expropriation of land
  • rapes and murders
  • the establishment of “open prisons” for penal criminals
Today only........468 Greeks remaining in the island.
Turkey has succeeded the ethnic cleansing by wiping the Greeks from the island.

Turkey’s choice to proceed with overflight above the Greek islands, even on a day with difficult weather conditions – although conditions were not as intense in the area – is seen as an indication of its intention to continue its aggresion policy and confirm that it is the troublemaker of the region.

Bitch please this thread is for non-bias discussion and you come here to promote your propaganda. Cried a little?

F.S. aren't you guys tired of this disgraceful, flagrant act? Nobody cares about Greece and the maximalist, bullshit demands of her while a European country is about to be outright annihilated and the sole dominant Superpower is about to lose its privilages?

If you want it this much, then stop b.tching about it crying for support and do it yourself, go to court, open a war but do something by yourself with at least some dignity.

------

Anyway, I hope this post will put the final nail in the coffin for this sh.tposting contest. Stop sharing propaganda and stick to the rules of discussion in a civilized manner. If you start spreading this issue instead of following the rules and reply to me, I'm gonna ignore your bullshit.

@Akritas

Lets continue here then. My last post

Whaaaaa!!!!

1- It was your call for help in history that resulted in the crusades. Literally. Even after 4th crusade you called them for help and they came to help you with Crusade of Nicopolis(1396). Even during the siege of Constantinople in 1453 until the last moment you looked at the horizon.

2- You failed in your independence war. The rebellion was on the verge of being crushed. British interfered. If not for outer powers, you were our subjects for another millenia.

3- In what you call Asia Minor Catastrophe, you again wanted to get lands in Anatolia with the complete backing of the allies.

4- Today you are still a vulture state. You are like a tuberculosis in an AIDS patient. The real sickness is AIDS(Turkeys falling down with the west), you are opportunist tuberculosis bacterias. You seek what you can gain from this. When Turkey is diplomatically strong you are ''oh neighbours neighbours'' and peace tunes. Whenever Turkey falls in a crisis 12 miles, EastMed forum, Israel-Greece-Cyprus fuckery etc. Turkey falls down with Egypt due to ikhwan irritation of Sisi and you use this for your EEZ interests.

You give USA land bases, you brag with Frances jets, you hype about getting old ships of USA and all that shit.

So I ask you, how is it actually Turkish tradition to use foreigners at dirty jobs?

Greece is the satellite state of outer powers of the region. You are used as a pawn whenever someone gets irritated by Turkey. Your countrys entire foundation is based on being a frontier against a potential Turkey threat in future. That is why Britain founded your country.
