Greenland being 2.8 x bigger than Türkiye and holds potentially lots of minerals that are rare has become a center of attraction, and being part of the Danish Kingdom.

It has less than 100.000 population, actually almost the same as Fæørerne which is like a period (.) compared to Greenlands size (some 56.000+ population). So people might wonder why the population hasn't increased so much, well Danish politics in the past. Danish Culture is not the same as the culture of people who could likely have ancestry with Turks.

Anyway, Denmark retains civilian control over the island, while US has been given Military control, hence they've the Thule Base in Greenland way back from after WW2, and has less than 1000 people on the base. As the cold war decreased the numbers decreased.

I thought it would be nice to have a thread about Greenland to share news information and such.

Especially considering how people may have the wrong perception of Greenland being a big chunk of Ice and Snow.

I found this piece that explains abit about agriculture on Greenland and I for one would love to see their own population grow exponentially considering how fucked up this world is becoming no one will care if they got bombed to oblivion as Israel has shown in Gaza.

11- year old kid was given 100 USD by people who went to Greenland with Trumps Son.

I'd like to add that in previous news, they showed how Trump people invited random people to lunch at a restaurent, and people just went because it was free lunch, they did not think much about who it was.

There are drunk, homeless, social dump in any country, and Greenland is no exception, and then there are people who are aware of what is going on in the world and think more rationally.

Inuits in Greenland today demonstrated before the US Consulate, and it seems the US consulate took down the US flag before the demonstrations.

Several other demonstrations were orchestrated in other cities. Sending a clear message to US.

IMO I think it's important that Denmark and EU takes a more proactive approach and invest and support the Government on Greenland to ensure a growth that was slowest down due to past Danish political decisions. I don't know what kind of politics, but I do know that it's important to ensure that Greenland is selfsufficient with food and other things that can ensure a solid growth both in country but also population wise.

It's not a country that'll attract tourism, like many other places, so the investments I mentioned are important.

It's unfortunately behind a paywall, but a short summary

  • The Danish government plans to purchase an additional 10-20 new F-35 fighter jets.
  • This decision is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Denmark's defense capabilities.
  • The acquisition aims to ensure Denmark's security and enhance its role within NATO.
  • The government emphasizes the importance of modernizing the military to address current and future threats.

Considering how Denmark has failed to make the promised investments with regard to Greenland in the past. This kind of investment seems to be a way of pleasing US.

IMO I think Denmark financing an airbase in Greenland that's capable of handling EF and F-35 and F-16 would make sense. Just solely relying on F-35 is extremly narrowminded thinking.

Especially because EU's involvement and support in developing Greenland is more vital than Denmarks means of pleasing US.

Because Greenlands foreign policy is still mostly managed by Denmark due to infrastructure, knowledge, wisdom etc. it also carries with it this kind of narrowmindedness.

Of course it takes money to have foreign policy, and Greenland is noway near being independent and capable of handling it itself. So I think the protectionist approach is good and bad.

However I think EU should establish an office in Greenland for future cooperation and Denmark should invite EU to do so as well. You can't just have US do whatever it please, while you don't give the Inuits an alternative partner.

The Inuit minister resposible for foreign relations literally mentioned Chinas as a potential Developing partner 2 weeks ago, literally giving Trump ammunition for invasion.

How dumb can you be.
