Damn it looks really complex down there. 3 prototypes visible two of which seem to be the flyable ones. The static test prototype at the back looks like it'll be completed sooner. Interestingly enough it doesn't seem to house the pins for the canopy like the other two prototypes. I dunno how that's gonna work out. But hey its awaiting the FD so that's great I guess :)

Serial production decision was given for Hürjet in SSIK.

Turkiye decides to move forward with mass-production of Hurjet light attack aircraft

Country’s first indigenous attack jet to be rolled out in 2023

Turkiye’s Defense Industry Executive Committee decided Wednesday to move forward with the first-phase mass-production of the Hurjet light attack jet.

Apart from the Hurjet, which will be unveiled in 2023, the committee discussed adding more indigenous systems to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory and other security agencies, the Communication Directorate said in a statement.

Without giving further details, the statement noted various projects concerning the country’s air, land and naval forces, including rockets, ammunition and equipment were decided during the meeting.

The committee underlined the importance of indigenization of every kind of technology the country imports, noting that efforts in that direction will be supported.

Despite obstacles, Turkiye will continue to work for the design, development and production of the indigenous system and technologies, the committee reiterated.

Hurjet project

The Hurjet aircraft is the fruit of an advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft project that was launched in 2017 by Turkish Aerospace Industries, and is expected to make its maiden flight during Turkey’s centennial in 2023.

Hurjet, designed with the goal of 5th-generation training aircraft, will be equipped with an advanced mission computer in its modern cockpit.

The aircraft will be supplied with superior radar and sensitive attack systems, and with air and ground communication capabilities, it will reduce threats and risks.

Hurjet will be 13.4 meters (43 feet) long with a wingspan of 11 meters (36 feet) and will provide environmental security in offensive operations.

The main aim of the Hurjet project is to replace the Turkish Air Force's T-38 trainer aircraft fleet -- consisting of 70 aircraft -- and to meet the needs of potential international customers, as noted on the Turkish Aerospace Industries’ website.

In the project, Hurjet’s maximum altitude is set at 45,000 feet (14 kilometers), along with its 3,000-kilogram (6,600-pound) payload and a maximum speed of Mach 1.2.

I dont understand this ? The tests of the the platform still havnt yet started ... How could they start the serial production
This is a political decision meaning it is intended to move into production once it completes its technical development phases. This is because TAI started this project without a request from its customer, the Turkish government. The reason why they started the project without a request from the Turkish government seems to be because they entered the tender of the US Air Force for the American trainer which the Boeing-Saab T-7 Red Hawk had won.

It can go higher than this estimate in the long term. The total production number can go to as high as 500 pieces with exports provided that engine supply is secured long term. This kind of airplane is also suitable for unmanned operation as the price is lower than a full size fighter which can sit at around $50mn a piece.

The US equivalent T-7 Red Hawk is targeting a sales number of 2700.

Turkish Airforce needs at least 90 to replace the jet trainers. If another 90 are produced for CAS duties, we are looking at good part of 200 planes. If this is doubled with exports 400 units are easy to achieve.
For this amount of planes you need 450+ engines.
If not produced in house :
1. Exports would suffer
2. We must have at least an open ended license agreement with GE
Otherwise a locally produced engine is a must. Let us not make the same mistake we made with LHTech-800!!

TAI took a gamble with the development of Hürjet with their own means, but it paid off.

Good to see TAI using their own capital to start it off, now Government funding is required to see it through - hence SSIK meeting to go-ahead with production.

Temel Kotil has spoken about Hurjet production;
”We haven’t given up on Malaysian bidding process. I have been there three times and will be there a fourth time soon. We believe in our product.”
”We are in the process of manufacturing. Within the next couple of months we will be in a position to show you the plane in it’s entirety. This plane safely, will make it’s first flight on 18th March,2023. We have come to the end of the tunnel.
we intend to manufacture first 6 to 7 planes, during the serial manufacturing process. Then we intend to produce around 2 planes per month. After 2025 every month 2 planes will be delivered to the customer.”

@Nilgiri

Hurjet will only be roll out ( finished prototype 1) in early 2023, this is TAI latest official statement. It usually needs around a year to build first prototype of a plane, same thing happen with other program. Malaysia is also in a rush to acquire LCA to replace their Hawks squadron which has so many accidents, latest one is this year or late 2021 where one of their Hawk plane was crush.

This is why IMO the chance for Hurjet to win Malaysian tender is behind KAI Korea and Indian Tejas, unless Malaysian is ambitious enough with their aerospace sector and committed to make long term plan to produce plane since TAI offer domestic assembling there if they chose Hurjet, a good step if Malaysia is willing to go into that direction.

Something that Malaysian needs in order to have a complete Aerospace company are assembling and system integration capability and also design capability and experience where for those ones they are lacking. They are still at the moment parts manufacturing focus.

March 2023 is the first flight date. The aircraft will be ready for sensor and avionic integration in the production line in a few months.

I dont think it is possible, needs one year from completion of prototype into test flight. Even simple plane like N 219 needs 2 years from roll out into test flight.

Just see what happen with KF21 prototype program as comparison, early 2020 they also have constructed relatively the same fuselage section compared to Hurjet in early 2022. KF 21 roll out was in April 2021 and until now it hasnt had maiden flight yet despite other prototypes have also been completed for ground test purposes.

It doesn't matter who thinks what. The official roadway and the course of the works have been progressing in this direction for about one and half year and the targeted flight will be made on the said date, unless there is a mishap.

How about the engine F 404 ? Has it been delivered to TAI Aerospace from GE ?

According to the statement, the F404 engine contract for the prototypes had already been signed. Probably the engines are in Tusaş at present. In addition, Tusaş signed a new contract for 80 engines before SSIK gave clearence for Hürjet serial production in SSIK meeting.
