I have given my word on this matter a year ago as well.

They are using "Anadolu" as a name-placeholder. Kizilelma, Hurjet are planned for the second ship in fact but they don't make the ship official as of now (apart from verbal confirmations).

Converting her to STOBAR will require modifications and reclassification process that will last 3 years at least including several trials and acceptance procedures being rerun. This kind of a gap is luxury for Turkish Navy at the moment.

Plus, TN wants to have a low-maintenance LHD for several reasons. A Navy does not always serve at combat situations.

I would, at first, like to see TB-3 being integrated to the Anadolu and operated seamless in a way Navy desires, within 2025. And provide support for amphibious, ISR operations and combat support.

What differences are there between Hurjet, T-50 golden eagle and JAS39 Gripen?

Just asking because you find often people water mouthing about Gripen but turning their nose for Hurjet

Gripen E and F are totally different planes. They have more powerful F414 engines on board. Their airframe have been redesigned by Akaer (who are also redesigning Hurjet’s airframe) to make it a more agile jet fighter. Also they have onboard the GaN based Aesa radar.
Gripen A to C however are very similar to Hurjet and Kai T50 in terms of power plant. However due to Gripen’s airframe design, it is a 2mach class jet fighter, where as the other two have been primarily designed to be “trainer jets“ for 5th generation jet fighter pilots.
Akaer’s touch on our Hurjet could render our plane with a more capable airframe to suit CAS and light fighter roles.

You know I have approached this situation differently from very beginning. Hürjet will be an ambitious advanced jet training aircraft with selected powerful engine. Hürjet is actually a Gripen or Mirage equivalent in terms of physical properties and engine thrust. But when the total speed, payload and number of weapon stations are included, superiority of Gripen and Mirage is apparent, at least based on brochure values. The reason for this is that these aircraft are designed according to different design philosophy during the initial phase.

The Gripen is a born fighter aircraft and has emerged to meet these criteria but the primary need of Hürjet is an advanced trainer aircraft and the performance outputs have been created accordingly, but one thing that should not be forgot is that there is an ongoing design study on a version of Hürjet that will take off from the aircraft carrier. No country in the world would bother to land an armed jet trainer so Hürjet will truly turn into a fighter plane capable of performing advanced missions like Mirage and Gripen. Of course, the first versions will naturally come out as a 6 station version (previous design had 8 station) capable of 1.2-1.4 mach speed, but the next version will appear as a true 4.5 generation aircraft with a speed of 1.8-2 Mach having 8-10 station equipped with MURAD GaN AESA radar, FEWS EW system and can fire Gökhan and Gökdoğan BVR missiles.

Currently, Hürkuş-II development continues and Hürkuş-II will have much superior dynamic characteristics than its first version. With a similar approach, the same things can be considered for Hürjet.

I don’t like this tbh, it sounds like previous work done is going to be a learning experience and we’ll proceed with project no.2 land on AC. Especially if they started designing the jet without an engine. Wasn’t that also what I. Demir said in an interview.

Hürjet flying in the damn sky is hat’s important and before 2025 imo.

I absolutely value your views my friend, though I want to make little additions.

Fast fighter jets is handy when you want to achieve air superiority, to get from point A to point B as fast as possible to intercept the enemy. TFx will be the powerful fast jet for this purpose, but like ships we also need "workhorse" type of fighter jets, ie light fighter jets that can do 80 - 90% of the tasks of TFx for instance for much cheaper. Those do not need to be that fast, F35 is not a fast fighter as well.

Point is with own fighter jets and drones we can develop our own specific way of air fights, our own concepts. A Greece cannot do this, but we can think out of the box and implement new methods, just like is done with the drones (a paradigma change)

Turkey needs to go her own special way with own aircraft, Eurofighters and sort will not add any substantial value to our air force (besides looking good on photo's)

A modern multi purpose fighter aircraft is designed primarily to secure control of essential airspace by destroying enemy aircraft in combat.
But it has to, as well as have air to air combat capabilities, needs to be able to do air to surface attack. Also it needs to be able to perform reconnaissance missions.
A modern jet fighter needs to be able to operate at day time and at night time.
Apart from getting to it’s destination and getting away from danger zones quickly, it may need speed and instant power to evade missiles that are meant for her.
Since we are not rich enough to have dedicated bombers, our multi purpose fighter is also expected to carry out bombing missions too. But thankfully, due to the introduction of smart bombs and very accurate targeting systems, carpet bombing indiscriminately of enemy positions with large bomber aircraft is no longer a necessity. Modern warfare is more about surgical strikes.
To build an aircraft that will perform all these duties and do justice, is stretching the envelope a bit too much. So we need aircrafts that will specialise in certain mission parameters.
We will need aircraft for CAS and light attack missions. (Hurjet).
We will need aircraft for air superiority missions (MMU and f16)
We will need aircraft for heavy bombing missions (MMU and F16)
This will mean configuring both f16 and MMU fighters in certain cases for heavy bombing missions. But for all light bombing and cheap quick response sorties a modified Hurjet will be invaluable.
As per @Nutuk ’s post we need planes “a la turco“ . Modified and designed to serve our needs and stay within our capability envelope.
Addition of MIUS high subsonic/supersonic unmanned fighters will add to the lethality of our airforce and become game changers.

So that confirms it. Ladies & gentlemen, behold the Hurjet ejection test prototype! This will probably get sent to England. This is exactly what I thought would happen. This build, always looked a bit sketchy. If you remember a couple of months back, it lacked wiring and was rather plain when compared to the prototypes next to it. It's good to get a confirmation at least. I'm feeling hella happy atm!

Same payload capacity as Gripen C/D...

Like I said people underestimate Hürjet. I think it will be a highly advanced light fighter capable of carrying highly advanced missiles and bombs as well as a very potent AESA radar (Murad).

Hürjet is counting the days to fly:
• On June 10, Deputy General Manager of Production will deliver the fuselage to the Deputy General Manager of Aircraft.
• Equipment started to take its place on the plane

We've heard that the engines for TFX have arrived, but as of yet not heard about the engines of Hurjet... Would be nice to hear something about the F404-GE-102 turbofan engine..

I think they're purposefully not announcing it. We won't be getting a roll out ceremony for Hurjet either. Same reason perhaps...

I think once we hear what the empty weight of the Hurjet will be, it will make a lot more sense. Being that Hurjet will be mostly composite - it's difficult to compare it to it's closest competitor S.Koreans T-50 which is wholly made up of metals.

Latest developments on Turkish aviation projects

-Hürjet body production has been completed and will be delivered to the relevant department on June 10
-Hürjet will be able to carry more than 5 tons of ammunition
-TFX part production is about to be completed. Assembly phase will begin soon.
- The first package of F110 engines to be used in TFX Blk-0 was delivered to Tusaş.
-Gökdoğan and Bozdoğan missiles are getting ready for mass production.
-Serial modernization started in the F16 Özgür project. Aselsan product HMD system will be used in Özgür aircraft
-Murad AESA radar will start flight tests with Akinci this year and will be integrated into F16 Özgür aircrafts in 2023.
