I really doubt Azerbaijan will be a user of Hürjet while it still uses the F404.

20 test flights is a lovely number. Talk of export is nice as well. What would be more great is if it was actually ordered for the trainer role by HvKK.

There is an order for Hurjet , 4 definite and 12 on option placed with Tusas. But it is only a start. If it is true that Tusas has ordered 100 F404 engines, that means more orders will come.

There is an order for Hurjet , 4 definite and 12 on option placed with Tusas. But it is only a start. If it is true that Tusas has ordered 100 F404 engines, that means more orders will come.


AFAIK, not for the trainer role. I'm thinking this is the HvKK giving an olive branch to TAI, to not repeat the Hürkuş blunder. 4 production variants for testing and 12 options to replace the 12 NF-5s of Turkish Stars. I think that 12 number is just that. No mention for the trainer role, yet.

  • A huge radar will come to HURJET. We will install ASELSAN radar, which can see 200 km, on HURJET. Its nose is made according to it, so it will be the same as the F-16 radar.
  • As for the capability, it will be a small F-16. We will place our missiles on it.
  • HURJET will land at TCG Anadolu.
  • HÜRJET's hourly flight costs, on average, you can divide the F-16's flight cost by 5.


Hurjet is my favorite among all the awesome products Turkiye is working on. I really hope it becomes a success!

So they're going to mount MURAD into HURJET. Ok. Good flex.

Hope they could integrate some stealth features into that plane to make it, at least, semi stealth.

These are great news but I can't see how it is going to take off or even more importantly land without an arresting hook or something similar on TCG Anadolu. Also its payload is less than half of F-16, it is even lower than FA-50.

Hooks will be installed on Anadolu, if not for Hürjet, it has to be for Kızılelma

Did they talk with GE about naval certification of single F404?

I am remembering Kozan Erkan mentioned that GE asked a lot of money from SAAB for naval certification of single F414 when they try to navalize Gripen for Brazil.

Also why are we trying to navalize Hurjet so hard? Just to be able to say that Anadolu is an aircraft carrier now? What other capabilities we have to reduce just to operate Hurjet? Will adding Hurjet worth that much to justify reducing these capabilities? We are wasting money.

That is why I mentioned payload actually. Its capacity is too low, imo, to make enough of a difference to justify making a naval version. Just stick with drones (if they actually materialize properly) and wait until an actual aircraft carrier project (which I also find completely unnecessary btw) starts to take shape and maybe make a naval version of Kaan.

If we want to operate proper aircraft carrier in the future, naval Hürjet would be worth more as a trainer and stepping stone to build experience towards that goal. I can't see us building a carrier and proper fighter for it in less than 20 years earliest and at this point it would be meaningless to make anything less than a 5th gen fighter for it. India was trying to make a naval tejas as well right? America is using T45 for naval training. Are there anyone else using LCA on carriers? China? Anyways it is a long and prohibitively expensive journey to get there. But it seems to me that our Navy is eager to expand its naval aviation wing with whatever means necessary and I don't blame them.

I really wonder if Hürjet is a heavily base/hangar dependent aircraft.

Also i would love to see Hürjet landing and taking off Highways.

İn Ukrainian war , Drones are in everywhere, drones attack Russian airbases and destroying Russian fighters. Russians can't hide their fighters.

İf Hürjet were like Gripens, you could maintain the aircraft in everywhere.

Given the size of Turkishe economy, luxury of cruiser type vessel seems unwise to me.

It is no brainer that, efficient distribution of resources is very important for Turkish defence modernization at this juncture.

No, unless they develop a modular and removable at sea arresting wires (does it sound applicable? engineering wise seems hard to me), or we are deeply corrupted and going haywire to please someone. Such an operation on vessel means we are getting rid of 1/2 landing spot for helicopters a portion of hangar specifically made high to support certain helicopters, which is also used for accessing to the aft elevator; a remarkable trade-off in helicopter operations, which are basically what Anadolu is made for and what TN needs to support Amphibious operations.

TB3 is rumored to be landed with simple systems that do not penetrate deck, or removable with ease (haven't heard of wires and hook). Doesn't seem possible for a craft at KE's dimensions. In ideal conditions there is a long way to go, and lots of demonstrations to occur with hooks, ramp etc. on land-shore or on a floating landing platform to imitate deck of Anadolu and sea conditions before even attempting to take off from Anadolu, but in "ideal conditions".

"Baykar's", that is the keyword, not TN's.
