There is so much good and positive news coming regarding Hurjet. But there are three very important questions I would have liked the interviewers ask both Kotil and Demir :
1. Have we got the prototype engines in house?
2. What version of engine are we going to use?
3. And do we have guarantee of supply?
Because without positive answers to these questions, Hurjet project is a non starter.
I. Demir has been reiterating that there are plan B’s and C’s in place regarding engines. But having burnt one’s hands before with engine problems I am sure that every Turk in defence industry is anxious about engines.
What we really need is a rabbit like BATU out of TEI’s hat!

We can possibly make a domestic engine for Hürjet too once we have advanced the work for the TFX engine. It will be relatively easy to do so. Until we make such an engine small production numbers with stocked engines will be acceptable. It will even be a good test of capabilities before we start producing the larger engine.

I think even a twin engine configuration can be considered with a smaller engine if things go awry.
Pivoting to a twin engine configuration will probably require +80% less development work than starting fresh.

Mate there are and ALWAYS be Issues!!!!
Turkiye jumped to TOP GROUP of Countries Building HIGH TECHS.
NOW Those few countries WILL DO ALL neccesery to Crash Competitors "It is no Pinky Game"

Important thing is No way to predict all possible problems. There is a approach applied usually when NEW PROJECT Starts it is called "RISK MANAGMENT"
It is like this -> Analysis of feasible problem which CAN happend from start to the end of Project. So group which is assigned to analysis this NEED be paranoic.


Other important thing which I like to see happening again and again "HATE of WEST" on Turkiye and its ppl which work on Future "Dream" projects.

Why? Beacuse that ->

Talking about twin engines; ts1400 core can be converted to a turbofan developing 8500-9500lbf thrust. That should be enough to power Hurjet as a trainer.

2 flight prototypes, 1 static testing prototype, 1 fatigue testing prototype will be constructed in the scope of Hurjet project.

I think instead of trying to 'up-gun' the Hurjet into a fighter, it might be better to keep it as a LIFT. Rather, Turkey could look at using the TR Motor to design and develop a new single-engine medium-weight fighter. Of course, this probably can't be a thing until after the MMU.

Leading edge extensions over the intakes are gone (the new one has a different geometry and does not feel like it is a continuation of the wing in airflow sense), also blended "wing-body transition" looks better on the mockup. Lack of those made the plane a bit uglier.

But maybe it's because it's a low poly 3d model, used only for the website.. considering mobile devices, etc.

  1. Jet trainer
  2. Conflict preparedness training.
  3. Light attack (Close Air Support)
  4. Aggressor for combat training
  5. Armed and unarmed reconnaissance
  6. Aerobatics
  7. Naval version for A/C carriers.

A single engine fighter goes without saying once you have the engine.

Probably from the mockup.

I think exactly the same, don't trust the web resolution 3D design in the website. I don't think it represents the real design, I think mock up is still legit design and that 3D is just the best (closest) thing they can get for presentation purpose. In the end, you can't create detailed perfect models for web browsers which would run in multiple devices.

The only thing I trust in this article is "TEI is working on the engine." Best thing to hear after BMC left TR Motor. I am glad that this BMC jet engine scam ended.

The most logical thing to do is to develop two fighter aircraft with one domestic engine solution. Hurjet will fly with a foreign engine and serial production of trainer variant will commence by 2025/2026. Develop a Hürjet Fighter variant with a length around 15-16m and modify the fuselage and wing to make it more agile. By this way, instead of looking for a different national engine solution that will cost additional R&D money, we could integrate national 30000lb turbofan that is developed for Tf-X.

I agree, it must always be inside out modular approach as far as possible to make use of economy of scale and time most diligently....rather than have too many eggs in various baskets.

India learned hard way in end w.r.t Tejas, which should have really been MWF (mk 2 size) from get go....even going on foreign engine choice options as there would be more flexibility when sanctions hit us from US in 90s.

Simple use 1 for this class and use 2 for larger class with eye always on final goal and objectives for the ecosystem resources and time.

In fact even earlier than that was Marut episode, again largely engine related in end....again should have started with engine option first secured and design outwards.
