Development of a howitzer on the chassis of the Light Tank T24 was approved #OTD in 1942. It was indexed HMC T76. The T76 was accepted into service as the M37 but only entered production in 1945 and did not see battle in the Second World War. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

Yekaterina Petlyuk received her first tank #OTD in 1942. She drove light tanks at Stalingrad and at Kursk, earning an Order of the Red Banner. Her heroism got her sent to officer school, where she stayed as the commander of a training platoon. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

#OTD in 1942 orders were given to begin producing the T-34 tank in Chelyabinsk. This bolstered T-34 tank production, but had a negative effect on the KV-1S and prospective heavy tanks like the KV-13. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII.

A model of the 17 cm K Sfl. was finished #OTD in 1942. This heavy SPG was based on the VK 45.02(H), the future King Tiger, which was also in very early stages. Despite starting so early, the project was never completed. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII.

A shortage of V-2 engines forced some creative thinking to increase T-34 production in the short term. #OTD in 1941 factory 183 was ordered to look into the feasibility of adapting M-17T engines into the T-34 tank for production at factory 112. #tanks #History #WW2 #WWII.
