ISLAMABAD: The Senate session was adjourned on Friday without transacting any business minutes after the chair disallowed a PTI lawmaker from raising the issue of non-compliance with Supreme Court orders on shifting former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala jail to a private hospital in the federal capital.

Senator Manzoor Kakar was in the chair when Senator Mishal Khan Yousafzai sought to speak during the Question Hour.

Despite clear court directions, Imran Khan was not taken to Shifa International Hospital, Senator Yousafzai said, while regretting that he was taken to PIMS instead and rushed back to prison within a short span of time.

“If the government cannot implement the Supreme Court’s decision, we will not let the House run,” she declared.

ISLAMABAD: Eight members of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Saturday strongly condemned the government’s “blatant, wilful and deliberate violation” of the Supreme Court’s (SC) Aug 18 order for transferring PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.

“The order of the SC was clear, unequivocal and binding yet the executive has chosen to disregard it and has acted in direct defiance of the court’s directions and violated the same,” said a statement issued by the members.

Editorial: All the government had to do was take a prisoner from jail to an appointed hospital and allow them to have their medical tests administered under the supervision of individuals they trust.

This would have checked off the directive issued by the Supreme Court some 48 hours earlier, and earned the PML-N some much-needed goodwill. Instead, it took an adversarial stance against the order, insisted on having its own way despite explicit directions from the court, delayed implementation till the very end, and then failed to implement the order in a letter while claiming that it had fulfilled its ‘technical’ requirement.

PTI challenges govt claims about Imran’s incarceration

However, speaking at a press conference on Monday, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja rejected all the claims.

“The major grievance regarding Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi is that, for the last 15 months since March 2025, there has been a judgement of the Islamabad High Court that Imran and his wife be allowed to meet family members at least twice a week, but it is not being implemented,” he said.

“The court also allowed meetings with lawyers, but they were not allowed. Meetings with Imran’s sisters were also severely restricted and, after October 2025, meetings with his sisters were stopped.

“In November 2025, one sister, Dr Uzma, was allowed to meet Imran. Moreover, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital, but that order was also not implemented. This amounts to denial of Imran’s rights and the rights of his sisters,” he added.

Mr Raja said nearly 300 cases had been filed against Imran, yet his lawyers were not allowed to meet him.
