SRINAGAR, India: Anti-India rebels in Indian-controlled Kashmir killed two police officers in an attack Friday in the disputed region’s main city, officials said. Elsewhere in the Himalayan region, three suspected rebels and a policeman were killed in two gunbattles.
The violence came a day after diplomats from more than 20 countries stationed in India’s capital concluded a two-day visit to the region.
Police said militants sprayed bullets at two policemen near a police station in Srinagar city. Both died later at a hospital.
A short video of the attack circulated on social media shows a man in a pheran, a Kashmiri tunic worn during the winter, taking out what appears to be an automatic rifle and shooting at the policemen. He then quickly runs away.
Police and soldiers searched the area and later detained a young man for questioning.
No rebel group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a separate incident, a gunfight erupted shortly after scores of counterinsurgency police and soldiers launched an operation late Thursday in a village in southern Shopian district following a tip that three militants were there, Inspector-General Vijay Kumar said.
All three were killed in an exchange of gunfire early Friday, Kumar said. He said police recovered two rifles and a pistol.
Residents said government forces used explosives to blast a civilian house during the fighting, a common tactic by Indian troops in Kashmir.
In another gunbattle, militants killed a policeman and injured another in western Beerwah area early Friday, Kumar said.
Both India and Pakistan claim the divided territory of Kashmir in its entirety. Many Muslim Kashmiris support the rebel goal that the territory be united either under Pakistani rule or as an independent country.
New Delhi describes the Kashmir militancy as Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Pakistan denies the charge, and most Kashmiris consider it a legitimate freedom struggle.
Tens of thousands of civilians, rebels and government forces have been killed in the conflict.

lmao they can't win like this if they keep shooting from behind like cowards.
If the terrorists think they could win like this then 40 years have already been wasted by them, with India's economy rising the dream will forever be a dream.

Arab news is showing its true colours by not mentioning that the policemen were themselves Kashmiris and calling the attackers as "rebels" which are associated with LeT,designated terrorist organization responsible for 26/11 terrorist attack.

Arab news is showing

Tbh given what happened/happening in syria/iraq/yemen etc recently and ongoing (vis-a-vis arab solidarity).... "arabnews" credibility (w.r.t "rebels" etc) would be similar to a chinese news group credibility on some issue in the world right after/during nanjing 1937.

I mean who were the rebels vs militants vs terrorists vs official soldiers in all of that?...given grandiose scale of failure and utter degenerate weakness, cowardice and stupidity by some nationstate(s) claiming (and continuing to claim) whatever legacy in modern 20th century?

Would it be clear in head for such people from such areas and identities locally to then assert the definitions internationally? Or assert as a group think echo chamber mob wherever allowed to fester online?

Therefore India and reasonable Indians (and any people in general worldwide wanting to be rational) should ignore non-credible parties/media and associate mobs and larpers as far as possible (and other ones just like them that are drawn like moth to flame)...and instead welcome good consolidation of Arab governments (GCC and KSA for example) in support to India in FATF.

There is at least some consistency and significance there w.r.t keeping sanctions (alongside 99% consensus of countries) on a terrorist financing+promoter entity in our region.

We also welcome their continued deterioration/"re-calibration" of relations with that entity more broadly.

Let the larpers attract other larpers and let them be.

It is win-win for reasonable (non-larp) people, as we can make more common ground with each other past our differences and arguments...and shared distaste of larping nutcases.
