Seems the price still be the main problem right know, but who knows about the future. Back then perhaps we still have low GDP value so any sophiscating "alutsista" never made into list.

Does anyone here ever heard "MV 22 Osprey" procurement saga again ?

*flies away
well until now fund is still the problem.. main issue against rafale is the maintenance cost which will include initial buy of any tooling..

long back i remember that when we calculate the MEF requirement (which is until 2030 only), the cost is about current 1700T number.. it is just unimaginable that the cost can be summed up front and through foreign loan.. back then funding was through export credit and tied to the exporter countries.. france never put such credit anyway

IMO, rafale is just personal preference from wowo, i dont care the why.. but i dont want my taxes to pay high interest due to his loan

Today Rafale is fast becoming one of the most sought fighters in the world. Greece, Croatia, India, Qatar, Egypt, and still competing in Finland and Ukraine. Even Swiss is considering to replace their US fighters (F-18/F5) with Rafale.

those countries are already mirage user, want to expand political view, or cannot/will not buy F-35 because too expensive

there is a market soon for countries who want to retire F-16 but dont want to buy F-35

possibility of an embargo, are discussed and agreed at this stage
Well, in this decade we have common threat from the north, and Indonesia would be a buffer zone for the commonwealth in the south.

aannd whatever quadrilion blah blah blah monies still not mentioning IFX...
rafale is an ugly aircraft anyway.. all that curves but cannot think big hiding the refueling probe
According Jagarin Pane's latest article: KFX program still continued on, Iver could become 6 units, plus 8 Mogami class.
How credible is Jagarin Pane's information, does he an insider in Mindef?

About Rafale, the one that I dont't like is its speed which is below Mach 2. Perhaps, the French still can't make powerful jet engine for Rafale. If it is using a US made jet engine probably will have more speed and thrust to weight ratio.

The MoD would trying to get US fighter and an advance ones to boot, if they can't get F35 (nego is still going on) they would rather taking F 15 EX instead of F 16 V. This mean everything for us, technically and politically....

Mach 2 capability is mubazir anyway. Almost no aerial combat happen with speed exceeding 1.6 mach. Even F16 can only reach it for limited time with Clean configuration.

Look at trends of Latest gen fighters (F35, F18, Rafale, KF21, etc) almost all of them are "slow". Supercruise capability is more important.

Meanwhile who am i? A former Junior high schooler with penchant to listen some Abang siomay who set up his stall in front of my office?

There is indeed talk about the expand of air defense units within Air Force, after Teluk Naga unit, the most urgent one is to equipped Iswahyudi Air Force base, Roesmin Nurjadin AFB and Hasanuddin AFB along with one in Kalimantan and very possibly in Papua far later.

We are nothing but plebs but jagarin take things too far when he publish/release his own interpretation and conjuction all solely by his own assumption . We all love to gossip and mock each other while silently collecting juicy rumours . but presenting an assumption article to public and yet called it as " planned " Next expansion was a tad bit too sour for my taste ....

There are a reason why most of the old formilf guard are distancing themself from him ....

Nassams for now, LORAD still on the road of "talking talking" for now especially after Army had interest to get and operated the LORAD system and they had several valid reason for that.

Some interesting points about Croatian Rafale deal.

"Croatia will obtain 12 second-hand Dassault Rafale fighters. The deal is valued at €999 million ($1.2 billion) with the aircraft to start arriving in 2024.

The deal, which includes support and training, comprise 10 single-seaters and a pair of twin-seat jets.

The airframes have around 3,800 flight hours remaining of a 7,000h hour total, with the option of extending this to 9,000h.

Some analysis shows the potential of another lifetime extension and a service span even through to 2050 or 2060."
