Anyway, getting excited for the KF-21, even the basic block 1 would be one of the most formidable fighters in ASEAN. It would be a good replacement for Vipers, especially after the 2030+ period where we'll be retiring those old birds.

50 KF-21 is already excellent for the first batch, would be better if we continue to the next block 2 and block 3. KF-21 should be the workhorse of the air force the way the F-16 usually does.

Indonesian Air Force assets 2030 upwards should be a mix of KF-21, Rafale and F-15EX, while we get rid of Flankers and retiring F-16s.

The leaked Rapim list said 36 Rafale + 15 F-15EX to be fair (not even 18, never mind 36).

My guess is we'll still have to wait a lot longer for KFX.

Somewhat true but Spectra comes standard in each F3R production while SU35 must carry a pod for her EW. Arguably the PESA radar in SU35 is more expose to jamming compare to AESA radar Rafale has. So yeah even after we count in the EW pod SU35 still has its disadantage electronic wise. Tho it would be wrong as well to say that SU35 will always be in the loosing site against Rafale since many factor has to be calculate in such as type missiles they carry, Pilot skill/experience/jam terbang, etc, not to mention rules of the engagement in their training game. So lets just take it with a grain of salt.

This is a system by which the threat library of an EW system recognizes the radar signal that it is receiving and parrots back the signal so that the radar system appears to have contacted nothing. This method depends on the pulses from adversaries to be on a constant frequency and at a standard, regular interval.

Now this is important for us to understand more about EW system. That threat library need to be updated in regular basis. Having only use Rafale as their advance combat fighter will make sure that library be updated years to come by France, thats one of the plus point we need to keep in mind.

A second issue is the power levels of Russian jamming systems. The strength of Russian EW signals is at times overpowering, Ukrainian EW specialists tell AIN, but that signal is also so strong that it is also like a beacon. For any enemy’s anti-radiation weapon that has a “home on jam” mode, it literally makes the Russian aircraft a target.

I think there's a bit of conflicting reports and misinformation from both sides regarding Russian EW capabilities. This reminds me of a recorded incident some time ago when a Russian Su-24 with jammer on buzzed a US Navy ship in the Black Sea. If I remember correctly, some forums claimed that the Americans were totally blinded electronically when the Russians approached.

That doesn't necessarily mean the Russian EW capabilities are a lot better than what your post indicated, but then again, words from Ukrainian EW specialists regarding their adversary are probably better to be taken with a grain of salt since they're also still operating similar equipments with what the Russians have.

Indeed. They do know the capabilities of USSR EW equipments in details up to that point. That's what I'm getting at actually.

But after the dissolution of the USSR and since Ukraine have had several conflicts with Russia which in turn brings the former closer to NATO, even the most rookie Russian EW technicians are well aware that they can no longer depend on their old techs.

On the other hand, just like I wrote earlier: This still doesn't necessarily mean that the actual capabilities of current Russian EW hardwares are a lot better. It's just there are obviously different interests at odds to each other here.
