Article in Indonesian. Basically in 2011 TNI AL test firing 2 Yakhont missiles. The first one fired at 250 km range missed the target because they can't get a lock of the target. The second one fired at 185 km range hit and sank the target.

They can't even lock stationary target properly at that range, and yet some people dreamed for us to have missile with range above 300 km.

how's the correct way to reach that capability??
buy / get an asset for OTHT then get the missile??

i thought they already done that buy buying the CN235 MPA to support OTHT

previously discussed in KASKUS, the second shooting of the Yakhont was successful because the target coordinate data supplied by our submarine was not an MPA aircraft.

i guess they just have to try it then,
TNI receive their CN 235 MPA in 2013-2014 while the Yakhont fired on 2011

now it's time to give a chance for CN235 and Yakhont (if they still have a stock of it) or Brahmos (if they actually able and allowed to buy it) for an OTHT practice
(which suppose to be no problem cause the previous one they use a submarine as per your post)

Possibly because;

Gunfire officer hasn't supplied proper waypoints to allow missile a proper angle to lock-on,

Missile does not support mission profiling beyond a waypoint (let's say 2 at most in export version) and as the range increases the waypoints and GPS / INS accuracy decreases,

MPA has supplied coordinates with a shift, but again it is duty of the gunfire officer on the ship to correct those shifts. Reverts back to 1, i guess.

Its just launched to the target's position relying on INS for guidance and then after getting close enough will use onboard radar right?

Pretty much like that, if allowed, you can update it with the target's live location.
If it's really that simple, then it's either Yakhont missile was just that bad or the user was just that bad. Idk, lol
If the information is right on that article then it more sounds like the missile, range got shorter (from 300 to 185) and engagement was succesfull. Thus possibly related with GPS / INS accuracy, number of waypoints allowed in mission planning etc.

Didn't the chinese missile also failed to hit the target during practice in the past?

i think AH140, but is it possible to put it in REM class??

It would appear inclined box launchers amidships will be the way to go for any of these ships which weren't designed for VLS Brahmos from the get go. Vertically launching this missile would eat up too much space in the front, forcing designers to reduce the SAM farm.

Box launchers for this missile are currently operational on Rajput-class DDG and recently also fitted onto upgraded Delhi-class DDG, though in both cases they are front-facing boxes.

Is it known what multifunction radar you are going for on the Type-31/Iver? MFSTAR is a good platform and should work with the Barak-8 out of the box, though I don't think there will be any problem even if you go for a Thales radar. B8's seeker & fire control is fully compatible with Western electronic architectures. It'll just cost extra to integrate with a new radar type.

I think its Sea master 400 + TRS-4D Rotator.
