But they can't just start spend that money right?
They have to know what Submarine they will build first.
In other words, whoever wins the deal will use this budget to upgrade PT PAL's equipments. This will be allocated as upfront cash for necessary equipments, facility and training.

6 canister and no reloading mechanism?
Reloaded by crew and not in quite long time. Not favorable for blue water ships but only littoral patrol vessels (the system was developed for these vessels to begin wtih) or OPVs where crew can safely reload.

What i wonder if these kind of systems still have any use with their range of 5-6 km on manned patrol boats. Soon Turkish Navy will switch these duties to USVs.

Initially, the Mogami-class was only “fitted for but not with” (FFBNW) Mk. 41 vertical launch system (VLS). This changed at the end of 2021: According to our Japan-based contributor, Yoshihiro Inaba, In late November, the Japanese Ministry of Defense announced the supplementary budget for FY2021, which included a budget for two VLSs sets for FFM ships. Two FFM frigates will get 16 cells each (allowing for a total of 32 quad-parcked ESSM each). The total supplementary budget is about $6.8 billion, of which about $74 million is for the purchase of the VLS shipsets. Originally, the FFM 9 and 10 specified in the defense budget request for FY2022 included a budget for VLS. Therefore the VLS specified in this supplemental budget is for installation on any of the FFM ships 1 through 8.

$6.8 bil for 8 ships, each ship will have 2 set of vls (16 cells).

That's $850 per ship (16 cells + missile (very likely).

How much again the cost per ship of our AH140 and FREMM?
Its definitely FFBNW pahe right?

@Madokafc
The article is talking about supplementary budget alias "anggaran tambahan" that includes the money to purchase the vls system not necessarily the money to purchase the ships. If you want to know what they going to purchase with the 6.8 billion of supplementary budget, Jane's have an article about it

EmitenNews.com - PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero)/PTDI and PT Infoglobal Teknologi Semesta/Infoglobal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding cooperation in the integration of the Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA) mission system on the N219 aircraft. The MoU document was signed by PTDI's Director of Commerce, Technology & Development, Gita Amperiawan and Infoglobal's President Director, Adi Sasongko, at PTDI's Production Area II, Bandung.

With this cooperation, in the future the N219 aircraft will be developed with a special design as a maritime surveillance aircraft or MSA. The mission system from Infoglobal which had previously been installed on the NC212 Maritime Patrol (Patmar) TNI AL aircraft will then be further developed for use on the N219 MSA aircraft produced by PTDI. Infoglobal is a company engaged in fighter/military aircraft avionics, radar data processing, weapons control systems and defense application software.

There is market for such aircraft, in Indonesia itself Navy had long proposed the patrol version of N219 to replaced Nomad aircraft, then there is ministry of fisheries, Coast Guard, Search and Rescue agency as potensial customer with some already Made joint inquiry

Kinda weird tho, why didnt they pick NC 212 at the first place rather than wait for unproduced N 219?

The Navy already had NC212 and convert some of them toward patrol aircraft, but nonetheless the ramp is issue affecting the space and payload for such mission.

From this,
Type 218 will be hard if offered with local construction, those subs uses new construction technique which is quite different from the Nagapasa class and what Koreans have taught.

To this news,

WDYT ? Is there any chance to build submarine beyond Type 209 template ? Or it just to purchase a complete set of tooling for mae another Type 209 subs ?

In other hands, I don't think if 🇮🇩 MoD want annother lag behind our precius investor 🇸🇬
