The contract value is big, we can't afford that just by reallocation of PSP like PPA.

Should follow US approach, same kind for each type. Destroyer (AB), Cruiser (Tico), Frigate (OHP -> Constellation).

I prefer main large surface combatants to be based on PPA now (no FREMM) followed by small combatants from the OPV 90 design

They could add towed sonar, and ship that size could be modified to include hull sonar.

Or even better, all future large surface ships to be based on AH140

I don't think it's bow was made to accomodate a hull mounted sonar. TAS and VDS will do a better work at the open seas.

towed sonar must be deployed 1st and can be used on certain speed if you dont want the blade interfering the towed sonar capabilities. So thats why both Ficantieri and ALRI are aiming for the FREMM ASW deal.

Indeed focused on one platform should be the ideal solution. But i think MoD is trying to get many hull asap, although collecting various type of warships like a showroom.
