Is that good or bad?
i dont see any real goods in it, no more than just to make TNI have a destroyer
what makes it so special anyway, so special that make TNI actually need to get a 1990s ship...
US tech? weapons? ToT like our usual way with REM class, Makasar class and ext?

Our Ahmad Yani class (ex van speijk class) comissioned in the late 60s by the dutch, and currently still in active service within TNI AL.
They are about 60 years old. 🥲

As for asagiri class TNI AL may consider them pretty good and younger than our AY class, and if upgraded will make it more capable, yes the platform/ship maybe old but with modern sewaco will make the ship cabaple, our old ship also got modernized with R41 btw.
Moreover previously there is previous program about Interim ready frigate, to obtain maestrale but didnt materialize, atleast this show that TNI AL eagerly wanted new asset even if old, previously also reported about possibility of getting chinese old ship amd now asagiri class.

And for asagiri class maybe packaged as a deal to sweeten somthing.
A additional bonus if we buy new mogami?

Asagiri class won't give AL game changer capability. But if its given free then I think its good for TNI AL to operate it, rather than not getting it. It will increase hull number of AL's large combatant, that have more "ocean going cabapility". Old but, It still can kill submarines or ships.

Asagiri class have large crews, not problem for AL, I think cuz manpower is the least concern for us and we have enough crew to man the ship, just need some time for training. Thus can readily accept these ship, and put to use.

Tho its kinda a fuel guzzler.

Asagiri class -> given to ID.
Abukuma class -> given to PH.

Kinda good arrangement from JP.

Wet Dream Mode On cause most of the sensitive components are from US :

any chance that they want to change that offering of Mogami class with something with more steroid???
like Asahi class.
if they allow us to buy it along with that Asagiri, then it would be a something considerable.

In name only. The Asagiri-class destroyers' dimensions and displacement are still below those of the Balaputradewa-class "frigates".

That said, it will be interesting to see whether the TNI AL will still count the Asagiri-class among its destroyer-class vessels, as outlined in the service's modernisation plan, or whether they will be reclassified as "PKR", the designation commonly used for its frigates.

PT PAL secures contract for KSOT autonomous submarine

Indonesia's PT PAL has secured a contract from the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for an undisclosed number of Kapal Selam Otonom (KSOT) autonomous submarines, the company's CEO Kaharuddin Djenod told Janes.

Djenod disclosed the contract during a recent interview at the company's premises in Surabaya. His comments mark the first confirmation that the KSOT has moved beyond prototype and demonstration phases to evaluation procurement.

Details remain limited, but Djenod said the contracted variant will be significantly larger than the prototype demonstrated in October 2025 and will carry eight lightweight torpedoes.

Additional details about the contract and the submarine to be supplied will be revealed in October 2026 in line with events marking the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Djenod said.
