Fun Fact:

this is similar configuration to our FPB-57 Nav II ASW boat.

Yeah with addition of Dardo Ciws, sonar, anti air missiles and milas system.. Oh boy.. Event in her age she still have a huge punch on her
I seriously hope we get rid all those 21" torp launcher from all our vessels.

There is no point of having 21" torp other than submarine. Not only they will complicate logistic & maintenance, they also serve no significant tactical advantage.

The gist is Italian very much capable to build much of their own subsystem including the radar, gun and Missiles so there is almost complete package to secure transfer of knowledge from them on many subsystem. Indonesia had GCI radar projects, and likely Italian would secure the bag to assist us.
What make them any different from our 🇯🇵Elder Brother then❓ 🇯🇵even well capable to go nuclear overnight (literally speaking here)

Leonardo Demos Outstanding BMD Capabilities Performed By Its MFRA Radar During Formidable Shield 2019

The Italian Navy FREMM frigate Carlo Bergamini equipped with Leonardo’s MFRA was able to detect and track the launch and impact point of a ballistic missile. The MFRA radar demonstrated its ability to detect the full range of threats presented during the exercise.

Xavier Vavasseur 05 Sep 2019

During the US Navy-led multinational exercise Formidable Shield 2019, Leonardo’s MFRA (Multi-Function Radar Active) system was used by the Italian Navy to successfully detect, classify and track ballistic missiles. Installed on-board the Navy’s Carlo Bergamini FREMM-class frigate, the radar system demonstrated exceptional accuracy, confirming its suitability for anti-ballistic missile defence.

Formidable Shield 2019, which took place in the UK’s Hebrides Islands, involved Navies from Italy, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the United States. During the exercise, naval units from multiple nations worked together simultaneously to defend against threats ranging from anti-ship missiles, flying tens of metres above the sea, to ballistic missiles hundreds of kilometres away.

Leonardo’s MFRA radar demonstrated its ability to detect and track ballistic missiles in scenarios, which presented a mixed set of conventional supersonic and ballistic threats. As well as acting as an early-warning system, alerting the international defence system to the threat, the MFRA also supported the engagement and neutralisation of ballistic missiles.

During the early-warning scenario, the MFRA radar was able to detect and track the launch of the ballistic threat and calculate its expected impact point. This information was then shared with the other participating nations via a NATO-classified network using Leonardo’s ‘Sadoc3’ Combat Management System (CMS). This information is of vital importance to an international defence system because it allows for an alert to be sent to the impact zone and for the most effective countermeasure to be chosen. The ability to accurately identify a ballistic missile’s impact point and kinematic data has been demonstrated at Formidable Shield and the successful exercise affirms the Italian Navy’s ability to play a leading role in international operations.

Elsewhere during the exercise, the Leonardo MFRA demonstrated its multi-functionality, performing designation and air surveillance tasks in addition to missile defence. Highlighting its advanced capabilities, the radar was also able to autonomously detect a ballistic threat near to its point of impact, at a distance which would allow the threat to be neutralised by futures missile defence systems.

the advantage of that kind of radar that they can put them as high as possible (without using large superstructure/radar mast that sit low). that give better detection against sea skimming missile because they can detect over the horizon a bit better.

this doctrine implemented after experience in Falkland war (british input when developing EMPAR (MFRA predecessor) on horizon frigate before they left developing their own type 45 destroyer).

They should also include the range here, by writing in this way, they made the radar seem to be on par with Smart-L, while they are rather talking about MFR C-Band capabilities which is valid for short ranges (relatively short compared to BMD Early warning radars which uses L and recently S band)

Anyway with the recent contract for used frigate from Italy, I would say that there's still possibilities to purchase other used equipment, something that some members had treat as impossibilities based on statements made some years ago.

Durand de la penne DDG will be retired in 2024

there are a proposal from leonardo to use fixed array radar + long range rotary L band like that for "heavy surface combatant" variants of fremm , but i don't think indonesia would go that far .

Which has many ITAR equipments and outdated ones as well (Mk13, SM1). The ship will need a major overhaul of equipments and modifications before being transferred. Which in this case it will be better to invest that money on something like Horizon class if you truly desire an ABMD /AAW destroyer (1.5 Billion Euro a piece).

will we get all this? or will they reduce some of them?
If we really operate FREEM we should practicing with something similiar to it, about downgrade, i think france n italian always serve their customer with no acception, unlike some historical cold war foe 😂. And i hope we will also have the PAAMS system simulator to, if we not able to acquire aegis, since thales and leonardo is part of those, it was a long story in the past

Idk bro... Torp is the only thing that make those U-boat sweat under the water, depth bomb is more complicated then the fire and forget one, and maybe in some condition torp is more effective to sunk surface target than a missile, it almost cant be touch by any CIWS or missile

About the light weight thing... I think some designer like something compact, something more handy like carbine or SMG when you only have 7m wide and 40-60m long space on water... Kaya mau ngopi tapi susah selonjor rsssss..... 😂😂😂 ruang sangat sempit sekali....

Really hope the Marine corps can be a separate branch from the Navy, and operated their own Aircraft, helicopters, airlift aircraft, beside their usual traditional Amphibious assault vehicles, artillery, and MLRS.
