this could be the case , but instead we choose the words "reverse engineer" , don't forget , it's not rolls royce alone who participate creating this engine .

i think turbomecca (now safran helicopter) now more focus on developing and producing helicopter engine.
the development part of adour were mostly taken over by rolls royce and turbomecca only focusing on manufacturing those engine so they can put more RnD resource on helicopter side of things.

Honestly, I am hoping that beside develop N219. BPPT, Lapan and PT DI could develop helicopter. PT DI has a long time experience licensing NBO-105, Super Puma and Bell 105. Helicopter is good for rural area transportation too, especially during infrastructure project in Papua, most of Heavy equipment and tools transported by Helicopter.

Reverse engineering is very hard for gas turbine engines, it isn't just the shape of the compressors or turbines it is much, much more complex than that.

I am very interested with this so called 25 years master plan, what do you guys think about this so called "totalitas kemampuan pertahanan"?
Total defence capability? I wonder if the defence industry also included, does this project also included within that master plan?
How much independent our indhan would be in 25 year, if this reverse engineering is successful I believe in that time frame we can even develop new engine.

Foreign expertise would help greatly, UAE has hired some experts in gas turbine technology for developing turbojets for missile and so far it look to be paying off.

Did you remember what I have said previously that Mindef is trying to have road map to pursue jet fighter technology beyond Indonesian Aerospace capability that will include many companies and institutions ?

The plan (for jet fighter industry ecosystem) is actually prompted during Indonesian KFX/IFX team presentation (represented by DI Director) to Mindef when DAPA official comes to Jakarta.

I'm actually skeptical about reverse-engineering the whole Adour. They might be only reverse-engineer some parts of it for maintenance.

Remind me of how in late 80's or 90's Indonesia has a plan to produce its own fighter. I couldn't find any research publications about it though. I guess it is better late than never.

It was plan to produce Hawk 109/200 in the country, not developing a new fighter plane. The plan cannot get realized due to Asian Economic Crisis (IMF forbid Indonesia gov to finance PTDI- so they cannot build new facility for that) There is also plan to build corvette in the country during 1990s. The design has already been made as well.

Copying by reverse engineering may also take a life time,. Manufacturing license is the best way to learn how to manufacture it. In parallel, we start our own R&D to the engine that we need ( for our own PTDI products and for future indigenous fighter jet).
