The production process of the first prototype of the Tf-X has begun and parts are being produced at present. 18 months to roll-out. The critical design and prototype maturation process will continue until 2025 and the first flight will take place. Improvements will be made with feedback after the flight tests and TfX will be ready for delivery by 2028-2030. These processes are already underway with the active participation of more than 100 BAE engineers so I don't think deal with Indonesia are within the scope of TfX.

Well I just said possible, and if there is no official statement coming from either TAI or DI official, so what I have said as possibility is not materialized/happened

I also see the CEO of Havelsan at the signing ceremony. Havelsan offers source code, software and training simulation solutions to flying platforms. Presumably, this signature may covers cooperation on an Indonesian aviation project, not for Turkish programs.

Yup, that is Havelsan, we are talking about TAI here as the twitter talk about cooperation between DI and TAI. Havelsan is a separate issue, and DI has publish about Havelsan deal in their website as well

Here the link, read again carefully. About N 219 the interest is from Mexico and Turkey, it is coming from the mouth of high rank N 219 program manager. There is intension from our side to perfect N 219 before other Aerospace industry can produce it under license, but this N 245 program look like mentioning about co-development

If there was more small regional airports in Turkey, N219 would be very ideal for cargo, as utility aircraft. If amphibious variant is developed. It could land in dam lakes without needing landing strip. Used to travel between coastal cities. Civilian aviation, smaller aircraft is underdeveloped in Turkey despite the potential.

I seriously doubt that Turkey would go for a Regional Plane and if they wanted to they would have chosen the Sierra Nevada Corp. offer 6 Years ago.

"SNC has pursued international ventures for much of its 50-plus-year history and the company has had business interests in Turkey for several years. SNC’s owners, President Eren Ozmen and CEO Fatih Ozmen, are of Turkish origin and the establishment of TRJet cements their interests in the Republic of Turkey as both Ozmens take leadership roles as directors in the newly-formed company. TRJet will not only be located in-country, but will employ Turkish workers and utilize local subcontractors and vendors, contributing significantly to the region’s economy while continuing to develop the Republic of Turkey’s burgeoning civil aviation industry."

We have had regional aircraft project in the plans for a long time. Before TRJET too. But the fate really depends on financing. Libya operations again showed the need for tactical transport aircraft of different sizes. Co-development with Antonov is sounds ideal but of course, cooperation with them is not easy as it is said. Tactical transport aircraft are becoming more and more strategic. In the near future, it's not just going to be about using them for moving materials. Launch drones, cruise missiles from pallets. Also Imagine medium sized seaplane, lands on the water. Refuels FACs, USVs. Replaces crew, bring supplies to ships etc. I keep spamming seaplanes because we need it, potential is too good

In an interview with Temel Kotil, he said that they will also develop a regional passenger plane but now is not the right time to put it on the agenda because the project load is too much. He also said that partnerships could be formed to develop a passenger aircraft in the long term and he added that they are in talks with Embraer(!).

Very informative and enlightening video from DefenceTurk. I advise everyone to watch from 7:30.

It talks about how Turkish defense industry came a long way on platform systems and softwares but still lack heavily on sub-systems/components and is heavily reliant on foreign parts.

As much as we are proud of our platform systems, we have to produce these more critical systems but the video warns we wont be able to advance in every few years like we did with drones or military vehicles since these components are a harder task to achieve.

Unfortunately our government finds political solutions to problems caused by embargoes on these sub-systems/components. Namely, diversifying the options.

We are very late at this part of the business the video warns. The video regrets the careless spending of R&D money and lack of government control on it and noone investing in these up until now.

The video made me both sad and enlightened.

While it's awesome I wonder if the youth will become locked in "Google" systems and won't retain their creativity. I mean if the bright minds are taken by Google it's given they'll be leaving.

This is not economical ..its very hard to compete with world giants like apple and samsung ..but u can produce many parts for them(battaries, headphones, cables, chargers,,, etc)
I think that Turkey should take things a bit further and start tech turkish tech companies that produce turkish smartphones, tablets and laptops
Something like TOGG

Turkish domestic phone market is 12 million pieces a year. Same number of phones can be exported which gives roughly 25 million addressable market size. If a trade blockage of the sort imposed against Huawei ever kicks in it can kick start Turkish mobile phone industry. For it to be fruitfull a Turkish made microchip and screen tech should be available. Otherwise it will have marginal benefits.

Silicon solar cell developed in Turkey offers cheaper solution

Two Turkish scientists have developed a solar cell using local means that they hope will contribute to the country’s fledgling space program.

The silicon-based flexible solar cell, used in aviation, military and space technologies, is expected to reduce the high cost of cells, which traditionally use gallium arsenide. The cells will be used to power satellites, space and military vehicles.

They are the brainchild of professor Uğur Serincan and associate professor Mustafa Kulakcı from Eskişehir Technical University (ESTÜ).

The duo received a grant from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) three years ago for their project. Eventually, they managed to come up with silicon-based cells, which they have since patented. The cells have been hailed by the scientific community and the researchers won a top prize at an international invention fair held in Istanbul last month.

Kulakcı told Anadolu Agency (AA) last week that silicon had a more advanced substrate technology and is cheaper than gallium arsenide.

“They displayed a performance that can easily compete with gallium arsenide-based cells. We believe we have opened up a new, cost-effective venue in Group III-V photovoltaic technologies, for mass production,” he said.

Kulakcı said almost 90% of costs in solar cell production stemmed from substrates. He highlighted that the Earth had limited gallium resources and multiple sectors, from the photovoltaic sector to optoelectronics and telecommunications, had to share this limited source. “This, in turn, drives up the prices. We wanted to resolve this issue,” he said.

Serincan said their project may be helpful for Turkey’s national space program. “This is a technology of critical importance, as it has both civilian and military use. Reducing the costs can boost their civilian use,” he said.

Labor in Turkey is cheap but that itself does not balance ability manufacture such consumer electronics. Companies such as Apple, Samsung don't manufacture in China, just because "it's cheap". They have infrastructure.

Let's say you made a phone. Finalize design. Source parts. Sign deal with a factory for production. You start selling it. Then consumers start notice design issues. You have to change the internals, position of a button, add better screen etc. This means seeking design assistance and restarting production line as soon as possible. In China, you can do this in very short amount of time, cheaper as they have many companies specializing in that.

Turkey's close proximity to EU market and cheap labor attracts phone manufacturers for assembly. But getting anything out of this investment depends on government policy for industrialization. If government makes local companies learn from foreign investors such as tech transfers. It could encourage a semi sustainable local infrastructure for manufacturing in such areas. I believe the best decision would be offer niche civillian products. Like encrypted telecommunications systems that we already manufacture. We need to branch to civilian consumer products better.
