Semiconductors require billions of € of investment, R&D and human resources.

Maybe Arcelik or Turkey as a whole could start with mature nodes, but even that requires billions and even then success is not guaranteed. Nevertheless, are a bet worth taking if Arcelik would go for it.

All the challenges we face are like that. For example, searching for hydrocarbon deposits in the seas. So what should we do, should we sit back and accept our fate with our hands folded on our sides?

Thats a government funded project with guaranteed income. You can guesstimate that you're going to break even and eventually turn a profit. Gas is economically speaking easier than semiconductors.

I'm not discouraging, just saying that many countries and companies tried but unlike with gas it takes years to master it and there is no guarantee that your product will sell.

I've been following this channel on Youtube for a while and he did a great video about Indias Semiconductor project. India is ahead of us in Design but still didnt get it to work. Check it out if you have some time:

I don't think it is ok to single out Arçelik for an investment. This has to be done via a consortium 4-5 big holdings should come together to make that investment similar to TOGG.

I am well aware that the land is "heavily mined" IP and other methods, especially by the USA. However, we will either find a way in mined lands or open a brand new one.

Please also post this in the aircraft projects thread. Another first flight to look forward to!

We need to bring back state enterprises or private / government enterprises to other areas. If we can do it in defense and the last years have shown we can. Then we should also be able to leverage this for other areas where we are lacking.

Whether its semiconductors or others. Just take a look at what we import most and who wants to invest from the private sector. We need Roketsans and Aselsans in civilian areas of the economy.

Universities and companies need to work hand in hand to close our trade deficit and to turn the country into an export powerhouse and the majority of our citizens to middle class households.

Water Desalination = Gigantic Energy Demand = Nuclear Power.

Checks out. Just need more Nuclear Plants.

Akkuyu: 4 Reactors with yearly 35 Billion kWh production (=10.6%)
Sinop: 4 Reactors with 35 Billion kWh production (=10.6%)
Kiriklareli: 4 Reactors with yearly 35 Billion kWh production (=10.6%)

= 105 TWh (32%) of the Electricity production would be from Nuclear. Electricity Consumption will increase over the years but as reference point 2021 works.

Renewable Energy

= 117 TWh production in 2021

Nuclear + Renewable = 222 TWh of 330 TWh total Production. Rest is Gas and Coal.

Turkey needs Energy before anything else.
Turkeys Energy imports are humongous and weighing heavy on the Economy and damaging independence.

The Energy Consumption will only increase in the Future.

what we need is our own indigenous SMR design. then we'll have peace in the matters of energy.

Half of the ASML engineers are Turks in the Netherlands

ASML is "only" a manufacturer, the leading one but still only one with Nikon and Toshiba (i believe?) behind it that is only one part of the entire production line. These are highly specialized companies in their field, together with Applied Materials and Tokyo Electron very unique and leading edge technology. It takes more than just a lithography machine from ASML or some engineers from them to build semiconductors.

I would bet money btw that its easier to succeed at building semiconductors than it would be at competing with ASML, Zeiss and Trumpf in lithography.

So some engineers from ASML wont help with setting up a semiconductor industry.

Surely it is simpler to outright buy a bunch of ASML's latest and greatest and establish a giant plant and be done with it.
Here's the problem tho. Semiconductor tech is progressing on an annual basis. That means making the same tens of billions dollars worth of investment EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. And you just cannot skip steps. Being 5 years behind on semiconductor tech is a gap wider than the Grand Canyon.
And also the US is REALLY into using semiconductor tech to make sure that everyone bends the knee. This is a field that they OWN. The ASML is their bitch. Just ask China. They just learned this the hard way.

To cut a long story short, we MUST make our own lithography machines, come hell or high water.
