Israel’s military confirmed its attack on Iran early Saturday, saying it had hit military targets.

“In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel – right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

The U.S. had urged Israel not to hit sensitive targets like Iran’s nuclear facilities or oil fields, and governments around the world had cautioned against further escalation amid concerns the violence could spin out of control.
