Did you see the picture of the tailfin of the tanker that managed to land? The top of the fin was missing. Did not look like damage due to explosives to me. More consistent with an impact breaking the top of the fin off.

I examined the damaged section of the KC-135. Yes, it appears you're right that it wasn't hit by a missile, because the damage pattern isn't consistent with a missile strike; there are no shrapnel marks.
But the thing is, the damage to the vertical stabilizer is very minor; it's unlikely that a 100-ton aircraft would have hit it and fallen to the ground with serious damage. If a collision had occurred, the stabilizer would have been at least slightly bent, crushed, or deformed. But as you can see, there's nothing; it's as if the section had broken off and fallen.

It's important to consider that these enormous aircraft maintain a distance of at least several hundred meters from each other. There's simply no reason why they should have come close to each other in the air. How could they have collided in that case?
But since these are tanker aircraft, it's more likely that the fighter jet lightly brushed the stabilizer during refueling and broke off a small section.
