There are many lessons to be learned for Turkey by looking at the state of Iran.

Arresting any opposition member you see as a threat doesn't help. CHP is now the largest party in Türkiye in terms of voters. Erdoğan's recent arrest spree isn't doing any favors for national unity. If all Turks unite no outside force can play games from to weaken Türkiye from within.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The one thing Israel would fear the most is if Türkiye stops with the Iran style religious rhetroic and fully embraces hardcore Turkish nationalism and Kemalism. All their propaganda will blow up in their faces.

I have lost all respect for the CHP. Its handling of Turkey's military and technological advances is shameful. Just because these developments were accelerated under the AKP government, the CHP has been badmouthing them or openly fighting them for years.
In the past, there was a deep-seated inferiority complex: they seriously claimed that Turkey was incapable of building complex systems such as aeroplanes or modern weapons on its own. I consider this elitist view that only the West is capable of technical progress to be a profound betrayal of its own people. It is the people who, through their will and self-respect, have made this progress possible in the first place – the AKP has merely catalysed this process.

2. Opportunism instead of conviction
Today, in 2026, Turkey has achieved technological independence of around 85%. Only now, when these achievements are deeply rooted in society and have become part of the national identity, is the CHP backtracking and claiming that it was simply "misunderstood". Where has this party been for the last few decades? Why did it not push for this independence when it had the chance? To me, the CHP seems like a party that submits to the West and believes that development can only come about with foreign aid.

3. Corruption vs. competence
Is the AKP corrupt? Very likely. Is the CHP? Almost certainly. But why replace one government with an opposition that not only has the same moral shortcomings, but is also incompetent in terms of national defence and autonomy? The CHP has no historical track record that would justify this claim to power.

4. Realpolitic: Turkey as a regional power
We must remain realistic: Turkey will never be a global superpower due to its geography, demographics and lack of raw materials. This is not a question of incompetence, but of its strategic position. The fact that Turkey often prevails in this global power struggle is a remarkable achievement. Criticism of the AKP's economic missteps is justified, but much of it is also due to the immense external pressure exerted on a country striving for independence.

5. Religion as a strategic tool
The argument that religion inevitably leads to regression (as in Afghanistan or Iran) is false. The US and Israel have long shown that modernity, technology and religion can coexist.
Turkey today uses religion as a foreign policy tool ("soft power") to forge alliances with countries such as Pakistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. This is purely a survival strategy. Since the West and NATO have often let us down in the past, and Europe tends to side with Greece in the Aegean conflict, Turkey must go its own way to secure itself after the war in Ukraine. This is not about pure ideology, but about National Security.

Kemalism is a dead end now; it is only politically compatible with the West, and since the West has betrayed Turkey more than once, it must find a new identity and ideology.
