Navy Leasing Option for Nuclear Subs for Canada

While I don't believe Canada will ever purchase nuclear submarines, the offer the UK has made to help Canada in regards to the arctic opens a possibility for a lease for Canada. What I propose is that the UK build a number of Astute Class and partially crew and lease them to Canada. All maintenance is done in the UK. Back in 1955 a 6th submarine squadron was created with RN crews and CO's based in Halifax, Canadians crewed them as well.
This could be politically acceptable to the government with no messy cleanup of nuclear materials.

The agreement deals with the transfer of nuclear technology not just us. Its been about 40 years since the Canada class so this may be a better option.

Which basically means you can't use nuclear sub from UK as they are using US nuclear technology. Apart from US, UK, and recently Australia, nobody else can get it.

The solution is to purchase from 3rd party (France, etc) but the 1959 agreement not allowing that either, right?

The issue is that the US could very well approve the technology transfer, I assume no one asked. Back in the 80's no official denial on the transfer occurred and politics and attitudes at home came into play.
