Also didn't kurds literally let ISIS prisoners out just to get media attention they were about to loose again before coalition air strikes came in

They nearly got wiped out in the siege of kobani until Us airpower came in saved their asses.

as for the pkk kurds, assad and iranian bombing civilians, that is normal operation for them. Only Turkey seems to show concern for the actual welfare of the people, in a way thats why we are losing. If we treated the people in the region the way everyone else treats them, we would have swept them all aside a long time ago.

Turkish Ministry of foreign affaires and the Turkish President want to resume talks with the Damascus Government.

I Assume Conciliation with the Damascus Government isn't really a viable option for the Syrian Opposition even though the Turkish Government is keen on doing that.

Protest in AZAZ near Tal Rifat

"To Çavuşoğlu (Turkish FM), they did not rape your sister, they did not rape your mother, they did not take your children, they did not take your house. No reconciliation, no surrender"

From we can come suddenly one night to we want to come to terms with assad. So basically they went begging russia and america for permission to destroy their pkk ambitions, they didnt get it and are now looking for another way out of the syrian fiasco these fools dived head first into.

These ak party guys are shockingly incompetent.

Under AK party we turned into a nation of beggars.

This is real zigzagging in Syria policy. My heart is telling me to go till Damascus. But we are not even able to establish that 30km puffer zone. One alternative was to do this by accepting its potential costs. We could have also control Sinjar. In this case, the question is whether they can still establish a PKK state in the south and try to unite it with Barzani state in Iraq. So this option could have required us really to go south. The other alternative is to see whether we can help Esad to preserve the integrity of his country and accept some of the refugees. In this role we won’t be that much in the spot light and still achieve our means. We can also gain time because in this constellation PKK will not gain independence that quickly. We just need 10 years to grow very strong. If then PKK establishes a state there, then neither Russia nor US would want to fight with us. So although my heart says go in there and eliminate all opponents, I think this is the right decision. The question is many people were saying this for years. The AKP administration is as always very late.

what we should've done is to leverage our relationship with El Salvador to sneak some few hundred thousand Syrian refugees to the yearly migrant caravan in South America. let those Yankees get a good handful of their own poison.

YPG did that in 2020 when they were getting reamed by TAF, yes. Just a gentle reminder to both you and @Ryder, please do not cast aspersions on an entire ethnic group because of a particular subgroup.

As for Assad, he is a loathsome individual but it is not Turkey's job to get rid of him. It is the Syrians' job to rise up and take him down if they wish to be free of his influence. Your ideal life is not given, it is won by hard work and sacrifice. The rebels got screwed by the West and Russia, especially with the jihadis infiltrating their ranks but that's life. You fail once but maybe you'll succeed the second time.

i agree with this statement. perhaps all this "dialogue" bull is a scheme to reinvigorate Syrian resolve to fight against Assad?

Rebel clowns spent more time fighting each other rather than assad.

Then came ypg and isis which made it even worse. FSA was close really close until they bottled it.

In general when something looks short sighted and stupid, thats what it is when it concerns AK party. We seen too much to keep giving them the benefit of the doubt. However, erdogan had discussions with Russia they went no where, he didn't get permission and when you beg you are treated like a slave. So his next trick would be to pretend he wants to settle with Assad basically to get the americans to allow him to deal with the PKK in the region they control. Because if Turkey settles with Assad there is no way America will be able to remain in Syria.

For this to of worked though you can't have the assad axis attacking Turkish positions and you cant have Turkey bombing assads troops directly, this will tell the americans its just a cheap political ruse.

As for the syrian rebels, they can't win any war. When they had everything going for them they spent most their time killing each other. Now they lost everything and only the Turkish military maintains their existence expecting them to fight a war against Assad and win is ridiculous. But then again this is AK party.

I mean half the country fled, that tells you all you need to know about these people you are expecting to win a war.

this sounds quite nice tho. team up with Assad to cuck US/PKK/YPG and make them GTFO. the major problem in this would be the refugees in Turkiye. (perhaps yeet them to the Greece, during a future crisis involving Abdulhamit Han?)

how likely it is for AKP to pursue this plan tho?

Under AK party nothing really works since they operate from day to day. No foresight, no contingency for all the variables.

Assad, Iran and Russia know that erdogan is trapped not really because of Turkey but because of his weakness.

The multiple times Turkey entered syria, so much could have been achieved, but it kept getting cut short by erdogan. To make matters worse he keeps begging them for permission, so they know he wont dare do anything without begging first. The only time he showed balls was in throwing Trumps letter in the bin, but he still cut the operation short about 3 days into it. That entire eastern section could be liberated in the space of a week. All Turkey needs is a week or two to sort out that space.

No one in Syria fears erdogan, this is why even Assad and his pkk goons feel free to bomb a town square and slaughter civilians, they know he's impotent. They also know that the west is happy to see Turkey lose, so if tomorrow an all out war came about between Assad and Turkey the western media will portray Turkey as the enemy of the west and Assad as the good guy.

The simplest thing to do would be to strike the regions that Russia controls, there is nothing they can do Turkey that won't seriously harm themselves. They dare attack Turkey and its game over for them in Syria and can you imagine Turkey throwing her full support behind Ukraine. But you need a leader with balls, not a leader who uses his position to make himself and his cronies billionaires, you can't expect thieves to do the right thing.

Turkey should clear out what they need in the west of northern syria. Russia screwed themselves invading Ukraine, last thing they need is war with Turkey.

This highlights another problem with dictatorship. The man in charge does not want to do anything that risks his rule, that means the nation is second to his survival. The long term interests of the nation fall far behind the short term survival of the leader. If we had a fully functioning democracy, him going into Syria may cost him his position and someone else will come into that position, but Turkey will have achieved her geostatic interests.

This happened to Ecevit over Cyprus. But any blowback like Russia cutting gas supply or sanctions from the west will lead to his demise, it wont lead to Turkey pulling out syria like it didnt lead to Turkey pulling out of Cyprus, but a dictator wants to stay in power.

Evem if we had full democracy, in order to not lose the next election, most leaders would take sub optimal and myopic decisions. The problem is rather with the people. If something is for the good of the country they should accept the negative consequences. If not, then they deserve a dictator. If the dictator is a real one, like Putin he wont have fear of losing the power. In conclusion, a dictator with the brain and the balls is certainly better than any democracy.
