Today, at the factory of the American flagship Spirit Aerosystems (formerly Bombardier factory), a new industrial program to produce parts for Airbus A220 airframes was launched. In a ceremony chaired by the Moroccan Minister of Industry, Riyad Mazour, today, the fuselage of an AIRBUS A 220, manufactured locally by a purely Moroccan workforce, was delivered.

This is what we want to see from Morocco, not the hypothetical war stuff. Keep prospering. I heard the Moroccan aerospace industry is quite big?

IAI says "a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the aeronautics sector was signed during the meeting between the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Mr. Amir Peretz." Pay attention to the chairman of IA talking in moroccan dialect. ( He was born in morocco)

Im quite new to the information around the industry complex of morocco, but i will dig into it. 140 aerospace companies operate in the kingdom, and export around 1.6 billio USD. Stay tuned for more posts :)

After manufacturing cars and aircraft parts, Morocco is working to create a system for the manufacture of trains by the year 2025, which will be, in partnership with the French Alstom the most prominent player in this field in the Kingdom by providing it with high-speed trains, “trams” and parts that are manufactured Totally in Morocco, with the local rate of 60%. The plan is to manufacture trains within 3 years, to extend the network of tegifi, tramway and export to West Africa.

June 2022 , in the presence of the General Manager of the @SAFRAN Group, Mr. Olivier Andriès, the expansion of the @SafranNacelles Morocco factory specialized in the production of aircraft engine incubators was inaugurated, which required an investment of 115 million dirhams, which enabled an increase in the number of jobs created to 850.

Morocco Signs Agreement for Creation of Collins Aerospace Ecosystem​




Collins aerospace to establish an industrial system in Morocco, and this system will enable the creation of 800 jobs and achieve a cumulative turnover of up to one billion dollars by the horizon of 2032.

“The Collins ecosystem will contribute to the transfer of know-how to local operators, to the creation of jobs for our youth, and to Morocco’s efforts to keep pace with global trends towards sustainable production,” he added.

Morocco To Open ‘Gigafactory’ For Electric Vehicle Batteries​

Details on potential partners or the number of investments needed for the project are yet to be disclosed but Mezzour referred to the plant as a “gigafactory,” a term closely linked to Tesla, which could also simply highlight its large scale and production capacity.

Poised to compete with China and India, Morocco seeks to increase the integration of its automotive sector by boosting local production of vehicle parts and cutting its reliance on imports. Morocco aims to boost the rate of locally-made car parts directed to export from 65% to 80%, Mezzour said.

Mezzour highlighted that the automotive and aerospace industry are “two drivers of industrial innovation.” Morocco is interested in expanding its network of aerospace industry plants within the country. Currently, the country hosts 140 aerospace industry plants that build roughly 43% of plane components, the minister added.

A Moroccan brand of cars is in preparation. “We have a Moroccan initiative and investment to produce a vehicle which is in the process of being approved by the authorities concerned,” said Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, guest of the Grand Format program on Le360.


Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade announced that Morocco will soon have its own brand of car: “we have the vehicle. We had the chance to see it in preview. It has passed all the tests successfully, and will be offered to Moroccan customers at extremely attractive and competitive prices”.

According to the Minister of Industry and Trade, the vehicle, which will be marketed at nearly 170,000 dirhams, will for the moment only be dedicated mainly to the local market. “But we are confident. We are going to support [this operator], and do the best we can so that [he] has an international dimension”, he explained.

Morrocan approach is most smartest under the Arab world, you are building aerospace industry with building little things. Other Arab countries are paying billions to do what you are going to do with no ToT:LOL:.

We do not have the luxury of gas, and petroleum! That made our leadership look for other opportunities, and that's why we have an industry-based economy. I hope we can find huge gas reserves so we can expand our aerospace industry. We just signed an deal with Boeing to produce parts for our Apaches :)

Morocco is currently the first car producer in Africa with an installed vehicles capacity of nearly 1M cars per year. With over 65% of components being 100% "made in Morocco," the national automotive ecosystem, operates across the entire value chain and produces 9 car models. 10 billion USD in exports in 2022.

The aerospace majors will expand things slowly in maintenance side first and all (civil) component manufacture, inventory and assembly this requires first to build up expertise and capacity.

Over time there may be production too (for defence side as it relates to Morocco's defence supply chain suitability), I am not sure of specifics as it would need a more intense investment process compared to civilian side and that brings in bureaucrat + geopolitical side of thing to expand in significant way.

But yes it would likely be done in same complex as civil to share capital equipment, test cells and technicians etc as much as possible rather than do things separate and have to build something from scratch again (costly).

Morocco progress is very good here for its economic size. Let's hope for the best going forward.

Actually, our production of aerospace parts is not that bad being around 40-50 % in the localization rate. The issue is that the publicity of news, and accomplishments does not get posted online. I just found the Twitter post I sent you just by luck. For now, it seems like Morocco wants to have its own independence in the industrial sector in the civilian, but also defensive field.

When it comes to engines I'm aware that especially Safran has been there for at least 2 decades producing engines of different types. Since the MRO of the gazelle helicopter, and F1 mirages have been modernized in Morocco a long time ago I would assume that the defense engines as also been produced in Morocco. I remember reading something along those lines but I can find a source as I'm speaking right now.

The MRO of both the C-130, and the F16 vipers will take place in Morocco, and I would assume the same applies to Apache since we have set up a production unit of parts of Apache in Morocco. Our weak point is that we have not established the necessary defense structure with different companies specialized in different fields, but I could be wrong since Morocco are really strict in sharing information, so it could already be established.

The RD center was announced a short time ago, and the Air Force has opened a new line for physicians in the air force related to the defense industry just like the US airforce. Joint production with many different states such as India, Turkey, and mostly Israel is progressing well and we are getting some technology transfers related to the procurement we make.
