Morocco will continue its path toward the Eastern Sahara!

Does the area shown on the map (currently controlled by Algeria) actually represent the extent of the Moroccan official claim there?

I was under the impression the dispute overlaps at some border towns/ regions and that is about it (like how Caspian Report presented it in one of his videos iirc).

The subject has not been discussed openly a lot, however, the claims are still valid. Interestingly enough Moroccan foreign office on Twitter has for the first time referred to Moroccan south provinces as "western Sahara". In other words, Morocco will definitely head towards claiming the eastern Sahara that was part of Morocco before the French colonization of North Africa.

No, the dispute is not only a small border town but rather a land equivalent in size to the western Sahara, I'm referring to the Tindouf-bechar-Adrar region. Moroccan claims are solid, and all archives are in place. We will probably hear about it more after Morocco closes the file of the "western sahara". An interesting time lay ahead for North Africa.

Royal speech on the occasion of Throne Day

Summary of the King's speech:

-Bidding for the 2030 World Cup with Spain, and Portugal.

- Morocco's firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the establishment of its independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

- The outstretched hand to Algeria. Assuring once again our Algerian brothers that Morocco will never be the source of any evil or ill.

Morocco together with Palestine requested an emergency session for the Arab League. The meeting was held a few hours ago and hosted by the Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita.

Moroccan FM:

🔴Calls for effective international intervention to resolve the crisis and end the attack on Gaza.

🔴 Places full responsibility for the situation in Palestine on the Israeli side, accusing it of violating the holy sites and calling for international protection for the population in Gaza.

His Majesty the King terminated the duties of the Moroccan ambassador to France, and the decision has been valid since January 19, 2023. The same day that France made provocative moves toward the Kingdom within the European Union Parliament.

France has started to soften its tone regarding the territorial integrity of Morocco, and its hostile acts against the Kingdom in the recent few months.

The French ambassador to Morocco announces his country's support for the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara.

We will support […] the next steps so that this plan can be shared internationally. It is the reaffirmation that we will be a constant, faithful, creative, dynamic ally of what Morocco undertakes and pursues. »

The foreign ministers of Morocco, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Chad will hold a ministerial meeting tomorrow, Saturday, in the Kingdom to coordinate the international initiative launched by His Majesty the King to enhance the access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

A quick and intelligent reaction from Morocco after the expulsion of a humiliated France from the Sahel countries, especially from Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, by enabling these countries to access the ocean in order to help them achieve economic growth by enhancing and developing the export process and reducing the cost of imports.

Statements made by the foreign minister participating

Mali FM:

“The Initiative of His Majesty the King […] has aroused the interest of the government of Mali, which sees it as a manifestation of the solidarity and active fraternity of the Kingdom towards brother African countries.” it is often said: "To offer water is to offer life." Morocco chose the open sea »

Niger FM:

“The announcement of the royal initiative came without fanfare and fanfare.” ( Guess who he is referring to ). Bakary Yaou , affirmed that the Sahel has always been at the heart of Morocco's foreign policy, a “reliable partner” of the countries of the region. “For us, Morocco is a reliable partner who respects our dignity, our sovereignty, and our independence,”.

A report by a research institution affiliated with the Spanish Ministry of Defense said that the United States of America gave priority to its relations with Morocco at the expense of Spain, within the regional scope of the Mediterranean basin, given that Rabat has become a regional ally of Washington, especially after the return of public diplomatic relations between it and Tel Aviv in the year. 2020.

The Supreme Center for National Defense Studies, affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in Madrid, published a recent analytical paper stating that the United States of America has become more interested in its relations with Morocco than its northern neighbor, Spain, even though the latter is an ally of Washington at the level of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Between this and the American position recognizing the Moroccan Sahara.

The paper, which dates back to November 2023, and whose contents were published by El Independiente newspaper, stated that “Madrid must draw clear lessons,” despite the fact that Spain is an ally of the United States of America within NATO, and hosts one of its most important bases. The Navy is on Rota, but Washington preferred to give priority to its relations with a country that is not a member of NATO.

This is because Spain stands up against Israel in the Gaza-war the lost months instead of Morocco who close their eyes.

There's more to it than such a "little" issue. Morocco has been a long-term ally of the Americans and was the first country to recognize the United States. That the Americans are giving "priority" to Morocco is yet to prove itself, but hopefully, we will see magnitude in defense deals between 2024-2030. This time period will give us a clearer picture of how the relations between Morocco-US have advanced. Morocco has done what it could regarding Palestine and is still a firm supporter of Palestine.

General Juan Carlos Domingo assures that the Spanish government underestimates Moroccan nationalism. He says that if Spain does not react in time, Morocco will completely regain sovereignty over Sebta and Melilla (+ the islets).

“Morocco has claims on Ceuta (Sebta, editor’s note) and Melilla”, which “are not dead, despite the recent meeting between the two countries ”, the Division General believes.

Evoking “desires for Moroccan nationalism” and a dream of “Greater Morocco”, which would exist among Moroccans, he firmly believes that “it is only a matter of time before it (Morocco, editor’s note) do not attempt with Ceuta and Melilla the move which has already worked well with the Sahara.

They are still haunted by history... I guess he is referring to being more hostile to Morocco diplomatically speaking, as well as strengthening sebta/mellila more militarily.

Such a move could be very provocative. Keep in Mind Ceuta is close to Tanger and Tetuan. Tanger is very important for Morocco's Economy. Deploying more Troops and Assets that can strike deep into moroccan Terretory.

Other Option what Spain could do is to Support more openly the Polisario.

There is no need to make such a move, Sebta/mellila are small cities that would be destroyed within an hour by the Moroccan artillery if needed. Spain deploying more troops to these cities would only make them vulnerable, since the logistics would only be delivered by sea, and air. Spain has now changed its course and supports the Moroccan Sahara. Hopefully, Morocco will recover these 2 cities without any single bullet fired.

The Time is changing and World become Multipolar. With the Progress of new Actors in World Defence Industry like China and Turkey, Morocco can diversify it's Equipment and reduce the reliance on the West. There is also an economic Progress in Morocco, it's only a matter of Time for Morocco to be stronger. In Future there will be a Point where Spain can't stop Morocco anymore.

I never understood what Spain is doing on Moroccan territory and why Morocco accept this old colonial structure.

This a greater scandal than Palestine.

Morocca and USA relationship is deep rooted in significant historical ties. (Look up the history, very interesting) Hence, Morocco (for good reasons) will always keep an important aspect of its National security tied to USA.

To understand the issue of sebta/mellila you need to understand that these two small cities were granted by the Vatican/crusaders at a time when Morocco were fighting against the whole of Europe. ( The British, Spanish, french etc). If we did not have issues with our neighbor in the east, then it would be easier to solve this issue. Regardless this is a case of the future, and we will get it back at the appropriate time.

We are making huge demands to the Americans to ensure the independence of the platforms we are operating while diversifying our weapon arsenal. The next six years will be crucial for Morocco, and it will give us a broader understanding of the path Morocco is walking on.
