Does it really take that long to build a FAC ?
@Anmdt ?
Or is it the testing, arming etc. that is the reason for it to take so long ?
The construction has not begun yet, and i think at the moment they are conduction the analysis for signatures, propulsion system design etc. Considering this is referred as contract design stage and expected to be completed by mid of 2022, and another year for detail design to be completed the best date for construction is Q1 2023-Q2 2023, by assuming that the shipyard will be immediately chosen.
Technically once the contract stage ends they can conduct the tender, since there will be an estimate for the overall cost.
We may expect the first hull to take between 2 to 2.5 years at most, most of it being the tests and latter hulls can be about 1.5 to 2 years if those are contracted at once and ordered at once.
Let's note this further, the Turkish FAC is zipped version of Ada-Class.
In my opinion Navy will choose a faster track to replace aging FACs, it is only my assumption the FAC by Yonca Onuk is designed for this purpose. It is only wishful thinking though.
