According to a report by Turkish Media's Ankara Representative, Melik Yiğitel, Bayraktar drew attention to an article published in the Financial Times on March 13, the day the agreement was signed. He said, “There, a reserve amount was mentioned for Diyarbakır in reference to us. This is actually the Americans' own reserve estimates. We are not calling it a discovery yet. But they estimate that there is a 6.1 billion barrel reserve in the Diyarbakır region. This is amazing."
In response to questions after the ceremony held in Gabar the day before, Bayraktar shared the information that Turkey's annual oil imports amount to 365 million barrels. If the reserve discovery in the Diyarbakır basin is confirmed, it would provide oil for Turkey for more than 15 years.
Pointing out that nearly 60% of the 41 million barrel discovery made before the joint work with the Americans is on the Diyarbakır side, Bayraktar stated that with the partnership, they will enter a new era in oil exploration, saying, "Diyarbakır is very important for us."
Bayraktar said, “What we want to do with the Americans in Diyarbakır is related to the production of shale gas and shale oil inside the rocks. We are entering a new phase in Diyarbakır. We are hopeful.” He also mentioned that they continue exploration with traditional methods, stating, "TPAO's most profitable investment is Gabar. We are making a profitable business on a global scale." Bayraktar also mentioned that there are serious exploration activities in the regions up to the Syrian and Iraqi borders and listed other exploration areas as Van, Hakkari, and Şırnak.
"We are currently receiving requests from all over the world saying, 'Come and conduct exploration in our country.' We are receiving requests from Libya. We are already in Somalia. We recently signed an agreement in Pakistan. We will conduct exploration in Pakistan's waters."
"We have conducted 11 deep-sea drillings in the Eastern Mediterranean. In order to drill in the Mediterranean and other areas, I need a ship. Currently, our ships are very busy in the Black Sea. But we have plans for the upcoming period.
We are making efforts to develop fields in the Black Sea. Now, for the second phase, we will pass the floating production platform in Çanakkale through the Bosporus on May 29 and send it to Filyos."
