Well keep fingers crossed, I hope for my country that huge cashes of oil / gas can be found

But at same time I'm sceptical, we've seen these type of "news" before, coincidentally whenever Turkey is in the wake of a huge crisis we magically find oil and gas everywhere, that turns out to be gaz balloons.

I just asking myself , why the fuck Turkey dont drill during past ?
In 2000 ? 2005? 2010? but waiting until now ! Thats odd
First of all, let's add asking why didn't we drill before 2000. And then, we may say that because of budget and mainly control of ruling problems excluding technical satisfactoriness.

Looks promissing for test well, solid pressure

That well produces 3000 barrels per day not much compared to the consumption of Turkiye.

Why didn't we drill in the past? Drilling is an expensive business. Offshore drilling is very expensive. We signed agreements with the oil/gas companies but they didn't find any gas or they found gas and hid it from us. Whatever story you want to believe. I believe the first one cause no company wants to miss the chance to make a profit. Those companies were offered a huge chunk of the possible reserves.

After 2010 drilling equipment got cheaper so we collected second-hand equipment(drillships etc.) from the market. Those second-hand equipment were in very good condition and came really cheap. We also gained deep drilling tech and fracking tech as time passes. We were having skilled manpower issues to man everything and we brought talent from outside mostly from Malaysia. Now we are self-sufficient and drilling ourselves.

I think they did not have the ships, technology or the infanstructure to support drilling or perhaps politicians ass kissing another country or a company not to drill.

easy governments were weak (political economomical) and controlled or on pay list.. plus no technology because of better buy than do it yourself politics and economic callaps in the 90ties..

At the end of the day, it has to be feasible to get that oil up from where it is.

Meaning you need to cover your cost (both direct and inddirect). Let's just say that we break even with 10k barrel a day. But that pretty much depends on the well, and location, onshore or offshore. which adds to make the calculus even more difficult.

Let’s say that you have a huge oil or natural gas reserve worth hundreds of billions that is ready to be extracted. There isn’t a single big company or a politician that will refuse to make some huge money out of it if possible- profits or bribes.

If Turkey had such huge oil and gas reserves that were known for decades but Turkish politicians were so evil and corrupt... then the thing that would have happened is to bribe them all and international companies to get all the gas fields and exploit them while reaping all the profits and Turkey getting pennies... like in Africa.

You guys are preferring to believe in stupid conspiracies instead.

Oil and gas exploration is very dependent on geology, geography and most importantly on technologies and economic feasibility. If some reserve is on a very high depth in a place that you just can’t exploit with a good enough margin of profit... you just won’t do it. Nobody will spend billions on something that won’t pay off in the end. At the same time if the reserve is small many companies won’t even bother with it.
Yet in the last years technologies developed a lot and many reserves that weren’t feasible- now are. This is how America turned into one of the biggest Gas exporters in the world in the last years.

That just makes the collapse of the Ottomans even worse we lost all that land along with the resources in it.

Explains why Ataturk needed to capture Mosul too bad our capabilities were limited to get it back.

It burns me all that gas and oil we left behind only for the Rich Arab sheikhs to enjoy it now we celebrate just for a few meagre gains.

Shit pisses me off. Conspiracies are not far fetched its easy to bribe anybody to keep those resources unexploited. To keep a nation poor you gotta make them dependant on you not get any form of prosperity that could backfire in the future.

It is not a coincidence. The Brits took all the places where they knew oil was present. It was in the beginning of the time where they realized the value of the black gold. If they would have found oil in Diyarbakir back then, they woudve never let Turkiye take it

Mosul was still under Ottoman hands when the Ww1 armstice was signed. The British violated it and took the city.

Ottomans requested the city back but Damat Ferit Pasha surrendered it all while Vahdettin just stood by done nothing about it.

Yeah, thats my point. The Brits discovered oil was there after the signing of the armistice. Thats why they took it anyway.

Having substantial oil and gas reserves will not help us to be independent or richer or more developed.
Just look at all the oil and gas rich countries. If you are not prepared to let the Oil-Trusts to take a big portion of the “Cake”, you have no chance. Even Russia is in deep economic and political turmoil because it doesn’t want to share it‘s oil and gas wealth with western oil-trusts. Venezuela and Iran have the richest oil fields in the world. But they are in a situation that is most dire. Look at Libya ; Kaddafi would not share his country’s oil riches. They toppled him over. Iraq, Arabian peninsula countries. The list is too long. Unless you are USA, or UK , the oil you drill out, is no good to you.
Most oil rich states have a tyrant or a Sultan of some sorts ruling it. They are puppets of USA and oil-trusts.
Little finds like we have in Black Sea is not big enough to rock the boat yet! The trick is to have enough to cover a big portion of what we need. MUST NOT be an oil or gas exporting country!

They are aiming to slash some figures in the import bill which is among the primary reasons why there is a trade deficit, I dont think the motivation is to become a country which heavily relies on energy exports, thats not realistic and the future of that sector is grim anyways. If its however true that they can pump it out by 2024 then this will have a positive effect on Turkish finances. They will also go with a stronger hand to the upcoming negotations for the gas agreements since the the agreements are expiring next year.

You've got to have the iron resolve of a leadership to stand up to protect your hydrocarbon resources. To do anything that makes your country stronger and independent perse. An iron resolve to boost your defense industry too. Power is not shared easily. Turkey is on its way to make a come back in the world arena. We need to stand strong to get past this transition and leapfrog the middle income trap.

This has got nothing to do with having Iron Resolve! The more you stand firm against these trusts the deeper you sink in to the mud.
Chavez tried it in Venezuela. Look where it got them! They have the largest known oil reserves in the world. But the country is starving.
Iran’s Mullah’s have a lot of resolve. But they are seen as a pariah state. Apart from China and North Korea they do not have economic and technical cooperation with anybody.
Khaddafi tried to stand up to the west and the oil conglomerates. He was toppled over in the end. (OK he had a hand in Middle Eastern politics against Israel too).
Iraq with Saddam tried to defy the western powers and meddle in oil politics. Now the country Is in turmoil.
Whoever is in the helm, if Turkey finds substantial oil reserves in the South East and Gas in Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea, there is no way that leader is going to be able to stand firm and survive. There are so many instruments in the hands of the West that can have an impact on Turkish economy that can make or break.
