The Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission announced that it has agreed on the proposal for a Common Turkic Alphabet consisting of 34 letters.

At the meeting held in Baku in cooperation with the Turkic Academy and the Turkic Language Association, the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission reached a consensus on the proposal for a Common Turkic Alphabet consisting of 34 letters.

According to these regulations, it is proposed to add 5 new letters to the Turkiye Turkish Alphabet system. These letters are Əə, Ññ, Xx, Ūū, Qq.

In fact, there is no new sound in our spoken language, but the confusion of letters that are not included in our alphabet but which we vocalize differently while reading will be eliminated.

For the Turkic world, the transition to a common alphabet is one of the most important stages in cultural integration activities. More detailed posts on the subject are available on the back pages. Btw, Azerbaijan is truly becoming the cultural center of the Turkic world. This is demonstrated not only by its cultural heritage and historical perspective, but also by its support for the cultural integration of the Turkic world.

I know it's not realistic but I hoped we'd go back to using the old Turkic script with the fancy inscriptions rather than Latin or Cyrillic.

According to the statement made by the Prime Ministry of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baybazarov, at the 13th Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Economy and Trade of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the initiatives of the OTS member countries to establish the Council of Central Banks of Turkic States as well as the Green Economy Council were approved by the member countries. At the last “Informal Summit of the OTS Heads of State” held in Shusha, Azerbaijan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym Generous Tokayev noted that the total gross domestic product of the member countries has climbing to 2 trillion dollars and in this context, he was proposed the creation of the Council of Turkic Central Banks.

The Cooperation Agreement of the Council of Bank Associations of Turkic States, of which the Banks Association of Turkiye (TBB) is a member, was signed in Istanbul in November 2022.

At the next meeting in Turkestan, Kazakhstan, the opening of the “Turan” Free Economic Zone is planned. Integration activities between the OTS countries are becoming increasingly evident.

The new flag of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has been adopted.

According to Report, the relevant decision was made at the 11th Summit meeting of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States held in Bishkek.

The decision reads:

"In recognition of the shared historical and cultural values that unite the Turkic nations, and reaffirming the commitment to strengthening multifaceted cooperation, mutual progress, unity and solidarity, based on the Agreed Minutes of the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States held on
22 August 2012, in Bishkek, the Council of Heads of State hereby decided:

  1. To adopt the flag of the Organization of Turkic States, along with its description, as outlined in Annexes 1 and 2.

  2. In accordance with Paragraph 1 of the present Decision, to proceed with the harmonisation of the color schemes of the flags of other Turkic Cooperation Organizations in alignment with the flag of the Organization of Turkic States, and to adopt the updated flags of these organizations."

It was noted that the flag's design features an octagon, a crescent and star, and a sun with evenly diverging straight rays centered on a turquoise blue field.

The blue background (Pantone 3125C) symbolizes the clear sky, peace, and prosperity. This monochromatic backdrop signifies the unity of the Turkic nations. Historically, blue has been associated with Turkic culture and traditions, further reinforcing its cultural significance.

The octagon represents the centuries-old Turkic statehood, symbolizing the sign of the affirmation of the republic (hurriyat), stability, interconnectedness and strength derived from the common Turkic cultural heritage. In Turkic and Islamic traditions, the octagon is a symbol of guidance and wisdom, serving as a beacon for the Organization's path forward.

The sun, with its evenly diverging forty straight rays, symbolizes light, openness, and vitality. The rays represent the shared values and common vision that illuminate the path for the Turkic world, guiding it towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

The crescent and star, a well-known symbol across the Turkic world, stands for the Turkic statehood, growth, aspirations for the future and progress. These elements reflect the dynamic and forward-looking spirit of the Organization,
based on the rich shared history of the Turkic states.

This flag encapsulates the core symbols of Turkic identity, unity, common heritage, and comprehensive cooperation, which are central to the mission of the Organization of Turkic States.

Old one was much more aestheticallly pleasing. New symbol doesn't look right.

There is already an 8 pointed star which is supposed to symbolize the same thing, no point in having two in the same flag.

BTW this is what it is: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rub_el_Hizb

Ultimately, it is an organization's coat of arms, not a state flag, and will continue to change over the years. What is important is that the Union is beginning to lay out a comprehensive integration roadmap and started to walk on that - economically, lawly, politically and culturally. I used the 'Union' deliberately because it is now clear that the motivation behind the OTS is a comprehensive unity movement that will also addresses the security dimension.

regarding the "octagon" how it is relating to Turkic

obviously it is being used

e.g. this is the one for Turkmenistan - Presidential standard flag

150px-Flag_of_the_President_of_Turkmenistan.svg.png

Flag of the Kazakhstan Customs Bureau

150px-Kazakhstan_Customs_Service_flag.svg.png

and this one for Uzbekistan's Presidential standard flag

150px-Flag_of_the_President_of_Uzbekistan.svg.png

...geometric symbols such as the octagon may be culturally attributed to specific nations and populations over a period of time and environment, but ultimately they are universal, so the meanings assigned to them change over time.

You may think "Why did he post it here". I am posting it here in order to bring a light to a very positive development.

As @dBSPL ustad said the OTS is laying the foundations for a very deep cooperation and coordination on various issues including a comprehensive approach at security.

In the below video you will see the closing ceremony of the Azerbaijan Navy's "Underwater Offense Special Operations Course" which is the analogue of the Turkish "SAT Specialization Course". What we see here is a massive participation of Kazakhstani trainees with the participation of Azerbaijani and Turkish instructors.

I personally think that Azerbaijan is the best candidate for an OTS joint military training center/military academy.
