KARAISM AND CHRISTIANITY: AN EVOLVING RELATIONSHIPDaniel J. Lasker*Karaism is the oldest surviving Jewish sectarian movement, with ori-gins going back at least to the ninth century. Karaites reject the rab-binic concept of an Oral Law, given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai, that offers the authoritative interpretation of the Written Law. Though Karaites are not literal scripturalists, as many are accustomed to think, often Karaite interpretations of the Torah seem to be more consistent with the plain meaning of the text. Rabbanite Jews have generally con-sidered Karaites as part of the Jewish community; in the last century or so, however, Karaites in Eastern Europe separated themselves from other Jews. This essay will survey changing Karaite attitudes towards Christianity over the centuries. The emergence of Karaism as an independent alternative form of Judaism in the ninth-century Islamic world coincided with the first manifestations of a Jewish literary critique of Christianity as marked by a number of original polemical compositions.2 Indeed, the first identifiable Jewish anti-Christian polemicist, Dāwūd ibn Marwān al-Muqammaṣ, was later claimed by the Karaites as one of their own, even though there is no sure indication of his religious affiliation. His contemporary, Benjamin al-Nahawendi, who was the first to refer to.........

Workgroups on history, education, economy, freedom of movement and labor, security will be formed. The single currency is also on the agenda. The declaration probably won't be a full union declaration but rather a declaration of forming workgroups that will pave the way for an EU-like union.

Stating that the online summit held in April 2020 and the vaccine donation made to some countries in need in Africa during the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) process are important, Çavuşoğlu said, “Today, Hungary delivered the vaccines it donated for Africa to the Secretary General through the Turkic Council. . Türkiye-Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan summit will be held. It is probably about the export of Turkmen gas to the EU via the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye pipeline.

EU is very different than what it was back in the early days, through the 70's-80's and such.

Which is why it's important to keep the cooperation on levels that all can agree upon. Imagine if the other member states want to restrict islamic involvement and keep it secular/liyakat.

It would run counter to how Turkey is being governed atm. So it's best to cooperate and improve trade relations and keep things separately.

Common currency is not realistic, not when you can't run your country's economy solidly as Germany. And everyone know Germany sacrifices a lot for EU, but also gains alot.

As long as it does not interfere with their internal affairs. EU right now has a habit of interfering in its member states internal affairs that does not bide well with a lot of members in the union.

The principles upon which EU was built upon and expanded. The countries that joined are not living up to them. So they should be kicked out. But EU doesn’t have a mechanism for that, thus those that manages to enter joins the fray of bullying the potential candidates.

Turkey urges Turkish Cypriot membership in Turkic Council

Turkey urges Turkish Cypriot membership in Turkic Council

Turkey hopes to see the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) among the members of Turkic Council, the Turkish president said on Nov. 12.

"I trust in your valuable support in easing the isolation and embargo against Turkish Cypriots, who are an inseparable part of the Turkic World," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told the leaders of Turkic countries during the council's eighth summit in Istanbul.

Stressing Turkey's determination to fight against "all forms of terrorism," such as that of the FETÖ, which orchestrated a defeated coup in Turkey in 2016, as well as those of the PKK/YPG and DEASH/ISIL, ErdoĞan called on the leaders to increase cooperation on this issue. He added:"We must act together in the fight against Islamophobia and xenophobia that are the plague of our time."

The Turkish leader presented the Turkic world honorary medal to his Azerbaijani counterpart for the country's efforts to liberate Azerbaijan's occupied lands from Armenia in a 44-day conflict last year.

Also stressing the importance of cooperation in climate change and digitalization, Erdoğan said Turkey's largest aerospace and technology gathering Teknofest would be held in Azerbaijan next year.

Erdoğan along with leaders of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) attended on Nov. 2 the official opening ceremony of the council's general secretariat building in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Erdoğan met with the heads of member states at the secretariat office in the historic Sultanahmet district ahead of the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council.

The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Also present was Prime Minister Viktor Orban representing Hungary as an observer state.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov represented his country for the first time as an observer.

Turkic Council Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev also attended the ceremony.

Erdoğan and the foreign dignitaries later left for the Democracy and Freedoms Island in the Sea of Marmara to attend the summit being held under the theme “Green Technologies and Smart Cities in the Digital Age.”

Important decisions on the functioning and future of the organization including the changing of its name to the Organization of Turkic States and the adoption of a “Vision Document” for the next two decades are expected to be taken at the summit, the Turkish Presidency said Thursday in a statement.

Ways to further develop cooperation among the friendly countries in every field will also be discussed at the summit, during which Turkey will assume the presidency of the organization from Azerbaijan.

Also, Erdoğan will hold bilateral talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the summit, the statement added.

The Turkic Council was formed in 2009 to promote cooperation among Turkic-speaking states.

Quite the shallow content tbh. When you mention KKTC I expect more. I hope that more direct trade and flights will occur. That's where we should start.

I doubt that! What happened to news that Azerbaijan was going to recognize TRNC? I wish I would be mistaken but I heard these same things for decades. Ozal said same thing 30 years ago. We have representative in OIC, probably it would be like that, not a state membership. They don't even have to recognize, just allow free trade and flights for fck sake. So many times Turkish Cypriot flag carrier landed European airports, it is not a big deal but politics :))

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban:

The historical and cultural common heritage dating back centuries connects the Hungarian people with the Turkish peoples. They insulted us as 'the barbarian Huns and the people of Atilla' in Europe. However, our people are proud of this historical heritage.
