*INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES AND NATIONAL DEFENCE ECOSYSTEM CONCLUDES IN ISLAMABAD*
A two-day international conference on “Emerging Technologies and the Development of National Defence Ecosystem,” hosted by the Maritime Centre of Excellence, Pakistan Navy War College, concluded at Bahria University, Islamabad. Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, attended the closing session as Chief Guest.
The conference examined the technological, strategic, industrial and policy dimensions of emerging technologies while focusing on institutionalisation of academia-industry-military collaboration to develop an integrated national defence network.
Addressing the conference, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasised that the defence ecosystem must meet current needs while remaining prepared for future requirements. He underscored the importance of identifying technologies to develop independently, pursue through partnerships or monitor for future adoption. He also advocated developing shared national resources, including maritime data and open-water testing facilities, and regularly exercising it to test its resilience.
The conference focused on emerging trends in modern warfare, the balance of power in the Indian Ocean Region, arms control for niche technologies, counter-UAV systems, and the application of artificial intelligence and computational science to operational preparedness. Particular emphasis was placed on developing an indigenous maritime defence network. Participants also examined international defence innovation models, while a panel discussion explored a policy framework for sustained academia-industry-military integration.
The conference was attended by senior military leadership, policymakers, diplomats, academia, industry experts and students.
