Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Institute of Health (NIH) has developed a homemade vaccine — PakVac — with the help of a Chinese vaccine company CanSinoBio.

The vaccine has been prepared after rigorous quality control checks and meets the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) standards.

The initial capacity is 100,000 doses per day and according to Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health, Dr Faisal Sultan, the product has passed the rigorous internal QA testing, an important step to help in the vaccine supply line.

With production of the homemade vaccine, Pakistan’s dependence on other countries for COVID-19 vaccine will significantly reduce, the government said on its official twitter handle.

I don't think any of the Chinese vaccines are to the level of Pfizer Biontec which sets the gold standard at 90% plus efficacy in the real world and is even 80% plus effective against the Indian variant.

But end of day this is all about giving relief or mitigating the potency of the coronavirus. So if even it is 50% effective which it will be when applied across 10s of millions people it will have huge beneficial effects.

At end of day it is better to have 10s of millions jabs of this then 1 million of Pfizer given limited supplies and it will be long time before Pfizer production trickles down to Pakistan in large enough quantaties.

They have been recieving others but the numbers are almost token and insufficient to make any real differance. With this at least the numbers are enough to begin making a differance particularly as production is ramped up going forward.

Cases of the infection have come down significantly but comes September they could rise again and pose real threat. Hoping by that time the vaccine rollout will start biting the problem.

In any case, these efficacy rates govern the transmission (i.e symptomatic spread) rate.

All vaccines pretty much stop death (and related major hospitalisation use) at close to 100% level....and even 1 dose (of the 2 dose ones) does this quite close to 100% too (i.e the 33% or 50% efficacy rates you get from just 1 dose relates again to transmission/symptomatic spread).

So it is really about getting whatever you can, in whatever way and vaxxing the most vulnerable segments of population as quick as you can (with 1 dose) and as completely as you can.

Don't get too caught up in the efficacy, thats arguing about V-10 vs V-12 ferrari stuff....when you need just basic combustion engine to get from A to B.

The real scale that happened within China will come in years to come as other data compiles. It will take long time.

But the actual numbers exported start to tell its story.

Well said. Right now it's about jabbing as much of the population as possible.

I meant vaccines,Sinovac.

Yah thats what I am saying.

Sinovac and other one, has huge internal need/use for PRC.....and thus priority.

In quite different contrast to CCP official take on it (everything is fully defeated, very minor outbreak etc)....as if it were so the ratio of export/internal would be quite different now I would say.

I'm not so sure on the exact numbers of chinese vaccines totally exported, but it is quite small compared to internal use.

Any case this is positive thing for Pakistan, it needs to be producing something locally....though I hope the capacity of this is actually there (i.e big % chunk to do locally from the RnD recipe etc China has provided), rather than small % final cherry on top of importing stuff from China. The former would mean Pakistan can scale up lot more by itself rather than be just brochure conduit to already what would have come and will come from China.

If my country got 30 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine then why Pakistan as ally doesnt get at least 50 million?

• The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has four BSL facilities that are focused on animal diseases and vaccines.

• The Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency, Sihhiye/Ankara has one lab that focuses on infectious disease surveillance and prevention on a national basis.

• The Gulhane Medical Military Academy, Etlik/Ankara has a medically focused lab.

• The TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute, Gebze/Kocaeli has a research-focused lab.
