Algerian MOD claims to have shot down a drone that penetrated Algerian airspace near the city of Tin Zaouatine. Twitter posts show that the drone that shot down is an Akinci, operated by Malian airforce.

Tension rising was mentioned previously in this thread. : https://defencehub.live/threads/algeria-in-crisis.19628/page-3#post-337876

According to Reuters, both Algeria and Mali gave their own statements regarding Akinci. Algeria claims they shot it down, while Mali claims it crashed.

Furthermore, there are videos on X that are circulating showing that Mali has conducted drone strikes today at night, 2 April. Azawad/FLA claimed that Mali targeted civilian gold miners, resulting in the killing of 6 people. Will the Alliance of Sahel states/AES escalate further, and how will Algeria respond?

lol... seriously having a flying platform doesn't make you invincible or gives you permission to do what you want. Totally amateurish to fly Akinci that close to borders. Especially if the country in question has AD systems and such.

Very dumb.

Not necessarily, we can look at it from another angle. Algeria claimed that the drone flew 2 km inside Algeria, but the wreckage was found in Mali. This could mean that Algeria downed the drone inside the airspace of Mali, while neither party is at war with each other.

Another important point to remember is that we have previously talked about the war between Mali/Wagner and Azawad, and what part Algeria plays in this regional conflict. Algeria shooting down a drone inside Mali could be declared as taking its stance on the conflict, and supporting Azawad.

Old post:
The relations between the Sahel countries, and Algeria have already reached rock bottom. On the other hand, the relations between the Sahel coalition, and Morocco is pretty good. Does Algeria support the Azawad? What would be the reason? Fear of influx of migrants that is on the rise? Is its close ally becoming a threat around its borders? How can Algeria's enemies increase with each passing day? What is Algeria doing wrong?

Still, nothing much Mali can do about it but protest.
Downing it by Algeria is strange since both countries have no beef with each other.
