Serbia is buying newest Chinese-made FK-3 air defense missile system, according to local media.

Balkanska bezbednosna mreza (Balkan Security Network), quoting state-owned arms import company Yugoimport SDPR JP, reported that Serbia ordered FK-3 surface-to-air missile weapon system with a range of 100 km and altitude from 50 to 27,000m.

Sources said that Serbia acquired 3 batteries of the FK-3 system.

The FK-3 is an export variant of the Chinese last-generation, medium-range HQ-22 air defense missile system. The new medium-range air defense system was first shown at the Zhuhai show in 2016.

The missile defense system is equipped with a semi-active GPS, the complex is based on the HQ-12 air defense system, but, unlike the basic model, it is equipped with “wingless” missiles. In its range, the HQ-22 is in the class of American Patriot-III systems, according to Chinese sources.

Ministry of the defense Republic of Serbia also has taken delivery of the first CH-92A unmanned combat aerial vehicles from China in July.

The surveillance and reconnaissance unmanned aircraft systems, with strike capabilities, was formally handed over at Colonel-pilot Milenko Pavlovic Air Base in Batajnica on 4 July.

The Army of Serbia (VS) MiG-21, a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft plane, crashed early on Thursday near the village of Brasina in Western Serbia.

The plane took off from the airport in Batajnica in Belgrade and crashed while on a regular assignment.

A public prosecutor later said both pilots died in the crash, and that one local man in whose yard the plane fell was injured.

The team of the Search and Rescue Service of the Air Force and Air Defense and firefighters came to the scene soon after the crash.

The crashed MiG-21 UM aircraft with registration number 16185, was the last of the type in the VS and spent 34 years in operation.

It was a part of a total of 261 MIG 21 aircraft purchased in 1986 by the then for the needs of the then Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) which underwent the last overhaul four years ago.

Military analyst Aleksandar Radic told the Beta agency that the reasons why the plane was in use again were utterly unclear. He added the image that everything must be used had been created unnecessarily in Serbia.

"The plane was sent for a six-year-long overhaul in 2010, which is unusual because that procedure earlier lasted for months. Then it was back in use, but in May 2018 it was landed again due to technical problems and sent back to service on May 7 this year, " Radic said.

He added that the use of that plane was very questionable, especially since Serbia brags about repairing a squadron of more modern MiG-29s.

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic told TV Pink from Istanbul he had heard about the accident and “that it was being investigated.”

Ministry of the Defense Republic of Serbia has for the first time publicly showed new T-72MS main battle tanks on 28 November.

The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, accompanied with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko attended the presentation of new T-72MS tanks, donated by the Russian Federation on Saturday.

According to the Serbian MoD, the first batch of 11 upgraded Soviet-era tanks was delivered last month.

The T-72MS, commonly known as White Eagle, s an advanced variant of T-72B1 that features new armour and is equipped with new optics and combat equipment.

“These tanks also have stronger ballistic protection, explosive-reactive armour, better steering and navigation. Everything is incomparably easier for them and I believe that this will significantly contribute to greater combat readiness, interoperability and competence of our forces,” said Serbian President Vučić.

Lieutenant Colonel Goran Jovanović from the General Staff’s Development and Equipping Department (J-5) pointed out that the Russian T-72MS tank was currently the best in the Balkans and beyond, adding that the tank had undergone complex modernization and that all its features, manoeuvrability, armour protection and firepower had been significantly improved compared to M-84 tanks, which were in operational use in our armed forces.

“By fitting it with an 840 horsepower engine, its mobility has been increased. Our M-84 tank and the basic version of the T-72 tank are fitted with 780 horsepower engines. It has also been fitted with an automatic transmission that allows the driver to drive it more easily, and depending on the type of terrain, the driver can choose whether to change gears manually or automatically,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jovanović, adding that the armour protection that has been added to the T-72MS tank, successfully protects the tank crew from various types of projectiles.

Serbian Army in peacekeeping missions

06.03.2024.

Replacement of the contingent of the Serbian Army in the peacekeeping operation in Sinai

The members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who have been engaged in the international peacekeeping operation on the Sinai Peninsula since July last year, have returned to the Republic of Serbia after successfully completing their participation in the mission and handing over their duties to the new contingent.

It was the first contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces that participated in this mission of the independent peace organization "International Forces and Observers", which was created in accordance with the agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel in 1981, with the aim of implementing the security provisions of the Egypt-Israel agreement from 1978.

In the past seven months, members of our contingent, which consists of a ten-member engineering work group, have been engaged in engineering and infrastructure works at the mission camp in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. Their engagement was evaluated by superior officers and the mission command as extremely professional and responsible, in which they justified the reputation of the Serbian soldier in the best way and represented the Serbian Army and our country in the international environment.

У зони операције заменили су их припадници друге ротације инжињеријске јединице Војске Србије који су након примопредаје дужности започели шестомесечно ангажовање на истим задацима.
