RAFAEL at Singapore Airshow 2022

At the Forefront of Defence

It is our pleasure to invite you to visit us at the Singapore Airshow, February 15-18, 2022, Hall B, Booth N51.
RAFAEL will present a unique array of operational and battle-proven solutions for Air Battlespace Dominance.
Take a sneak peek at the advanced solutions to be displayed on-site.

For decades, Rafael has been at the forefront of cutting-edge military technologies, and a global leader in research and development of advanced defense technologies. These complete, combat-proven solutions highlight Rafael’s superiority in system interoperability, sense-to-strike and combat -AI capabilities. Recent technological achievements have demonstrated versatility in the fields of communication and reconnaissance. The seamless system integration of Rafael products with a vast array of platforms has been substantiated on both the MicroLite system as well as the BNET ground-based SDR system. These systems will be elaborated on during the show.

Throughout the week, Rafael will showcase the SPYDER All-in-One air defense system. SPYDER is a quick reaction, lower-tier Air-Defense system, designed to counter enemy aircraft, bombs, UAV’s, and precision-guided munitions. It provides effective protection of valuable assets, as well as first-class defense for maneuvering forces . By incorporating an integrated radar, Toplite EO/IR sensor and launcher onto a single platform, the All-in-One SPYDER can address a defense force’s individualized, operational needs. The SPYDER Air Defense System is the only Israeli made air defense system acquired by a NATO member state.

Rafael will also display a range of cutting-edge solutions addressing the offensive and defensive challenges of the modern battlefield:

MicroLite: an innovative, compact, lightweight EO/IR Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) system, for small aerial platforms such as UAVs, manned aircraft, aerostats, and observation balloons. The first of its kind, MicroLite has been tested and successfully integrated onto multiple unmanned aerial platforms, executing Wide-Area-Persistent-Surveillance (WAPS) missions.

LITENING-5: as the latest evolution of the world’s most widely-used targeting and navigation pod, Rafael’s LITENING-5 incorporates a wide array of sensors enabling target detection, recognition, identification. Known for its ability to shorten the sensor-to-shooter cycle, LITENING-5 provides electro-optical tracking of multiple dynamic and stationary targets. Its open architecture and vacant internal space enable integration of numerous capabilities and growth potential, such as SAR, ELINT and more. LITENING-5’s advanced operational capabilities enhance the fighter mission and effectiveness of combat range through all types of air-to-surface smart weaponry, including laser-guided, GPS-guided, and EO/IR imaging guided munitions.

RecceLite: part of Rafael’s family of advanced aerial and ground electro-optical systems, RecceLite provides multi-spectral, multi-role, real-time stand-off and stand-in reconnaissance, consisting of an airborne pod, a wide digital D/L, and a ground exploitation station. Recently, the latest model, the 3rd Generation Reccelite XR, successfully completed its development and testing phase.; it enables extended standoff ranges of over 80 km.

BNET Software-Defined Radios (SDR): this family of advanced, tactical broadband IP-MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network) provide reliable high-speed, low-delay connectivity for broadband data, voice and video on-the-move for ground and airborne platforms, HQs, and dismounted soldiers. The modular, multi-band, multi-channel, net-centric system enables unprecedented data rates and user numbers enabling all land, sea and air units to participate in a single, seamless, scalable network.

Other key systems on display include:

Iron Dome air and missile defense system

David’s Sling air defense system against medium-range missiles

DRONE DOME counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS)

SPICE family of stand-off, autonomous, air-to-surface munitions

LITESAT Electro-Optical Earth Observation system

It is "important" that the Singapore Airshow is held despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation and a smaller participation, as the biennial event provides a platform for industry players to discuss navigating the way out of the COVID-19 pandemic, said exhibition organiser Experia. This is empty event, I mean no public is allowed to watch. Only businesses, gov official, etc. I think 2024 event will be normal again, I wish.

Indonesian Aerospace as far as I know is not part of the participants at this year despite traditionally Indonesian Aerospace will always present in Singapore Airshow.

Singapore Airshow 2022: Airbus banks on ‘beauty’ of longer-range tanker for KC-Y

IMG_20220217_133142.jpg

Airbus has high hopes of landing a new tanker contract with the USAF, as it and prime Lockheed Martin bet on their joint LMXT concept to deliver an extended-range capability for the KC-Y programme.

Airbus is confident its partnership with Lockheed Martin on the future LMXT strategic tanker can deliver on USAF ambitions to operate at increasingly longer ranges.

LMXT will have a greater fuel capacity than the A330 MRTT upon which the former is based. It will be integrated with a range of US systems by Lockheed Martin, which would act as the prime manufacturer on the effort.

It will also oversee conversion and production activities – all dependent on securing a KC-Y production contract with as many as 140-160 aircraft expected to be procured from 2029 onward.

‘Longer range means that there are far fewer bases required for tanker aircraft, which is really the beauty of the LMXT proposition,’ said Jean Brice Dumont, head of military aircraft at Airbus Defence and Space.

He noted that firm requirements could be delivered to industry by the end of 2022, consistent with an original timeline set out by a KC-Y RfI issued in June 2021.

Otherwise referred to as Bridge Tanker, KC-Y has been planned to plug an interim gap in tanker capability between the last Boeing KC-46A Pegasus delivery and a future KC-Z, which the USAF so far has only defined as an ‘advanced’ air refuelling tanker.

Final KC-Y requirements are expected to be influenced by an analysis of future USAF deployments and how best to manage fighter fleets that are increasingly set to fly at extended ranges.

‘We have answered the RfI so the USAF know what we can offer,’ Dumont added.

Though the final design of the LMXT has still to be finalised, Lockheed Martin company literature describes a fuel capacity of 271,700lb (123,241kg), which would offer a superior capability to the 212,299lb on the KC-46A.

It remains to be seen if and how USAF decision-making on KC-Y will be influenced by the technical difficulties experienced with the KC-46A, but the more time it takes Boeing to manage them, the greater the risk it faces in persuading the USAF to commit to additional production of the aircraft.

Shephard reported previously that the USAF and Boeing are in negotiations to define a Remote Vision System (RVS) 2.0 baseline configuration, which could prove decisive in resolving issues associated with cameras in the existing RVS suffering from sun glare and causing display screens to be blacked out.

As a result, aerial refuelling operators have struggled to accurately identify receiver aircraft receptacles, resulting in a misalignment between the boom and receptacle.

Dumont also commented on various reports linking Germany to a potential procurement of F-35 fighter jets to fulfil a Tornado replacement requirement, scuppering a mixed fleet proposal by the last German government to acquire 93 Eurofighter Typhoons alongside 45 Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and E/A-18G Growlers.

He said: ‘We have provided the [new] German government with all available technical information on what we can do, be it the nuclear or electronic warfare role.’

KC-X, KC-Y and KC-Z.
Three different Tanker. The Pentagon has to much money on its hands and no idea what to do with it.
