The Israeli Air Force struck an ammunition depot and a base of the 23rd brigade of the former Syrian army in the province of Tartus. Presumably, F-16I aircraft were used in the attack, the type of bombs or missiles used is not reported. As a result of the strike, the military depots were completely destroyed, the colossal explosion was visible for many kilometers. An earthquake with a magnitude of about 3 points was recorded during the explosion of ammunition. Turkish troops and Turkish-backed militias are now gathering on the border with Syria.

This is creating fears that Turkey is preparing to invade Kurdish-controlled areas in northeastern Syria. This is what senior US officials told The Wall Street Journal.

The US supports the Kurdish troops, and there are American soldiers in the Kurdish areas.

The Turkish troop buildup has grown since the Assad regime fell. Troops – which are gathering near the border town of Kobane – consist of both uniformed Turkish soldiers and Syrians, whom Erdogan's government supports.

The government in Ankara and the Kurds in Syria are mortal enemies. Turkey sees the Syrian-Kurdish army, SDF, as an extension of the banned Turkish party Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Turkey has long wanted to remove the Kurds and their army from the border area.

In 2019, Turkey also invaded northeastern Syria, while Donald Trump withdrew most American troops from the area. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds were sent fleeing.

Have been saying that since a week ago. If no action is taken, sooner or later, the SNA will collapse from within and the PKK knows that very well and that is one of the reasons why they are stalling for time

On the other hand, people need to understand that Kobani isnt a simple city; it is probably the heart of the SDF spiritually and this means that Kobani has been turned into a natural fortress due to the plethora of underground tunnels that Turkey knows nothing about. Moreover, there are more pro-pkk ppl there and there may be civilian resistance as well. Probably, one of the reasons why the TSK is still making sure that all of its plans are foolproof or the casualities will be too high

In addition to that, domestically, opposition politicians have started to exert more pressure on Erdogan to retreat from Syria. Idiotic politicians like Ozgur Ozel, and Imamoglu from the CHP, many iYi MPs, and even Umit Ozdag have started criticising Erdo and stating that he hasnt won in Syria but lost instead and gave the US the privilige of forming Kurdistan etc.... and that he should have made peace with Assad

Finally, the US isnt willing to budge and it started to attack SNA forces near Idlib as a warning sign to Turkey. Will Turkey take the gamble and risk sanctions that may cripple the recovering Turkish economy or will they chicken out or they may sacrifice something in return for pleasing the US and convince them to withdraw from Syria..... that is yet to see

HTS needs to be more vocal about the unity of Syria and starts marching towards Raqqa. Combined with our full support, both on air and on the field, we could wade through this ordeal with minimal damage(by having YPG disbanded without fight). But if the HTS gets cold feet then we would have no choice but go all in. We could get sanctioned but not for too long, imo.
