Both Germany and Turkey had arrest warrants on him and Germans requested that he be given to them, but Germany was unwilling to trial him in Germany, they wanted a 3rd unrelated European country, fearing from the Kurdish diaspora in Germany. Italy denied Turkey's extradition request citing UNCAT and Turkey having death penalty. So he was sent back to Russia to get themselves rid of him, who sent him back to Greece.
