I'm much more interested in where the second prototype is. It's been 2 years. Should've had the third one by now.

KAAN jet's first flight took place on February 21, 2024, and the second flight was conducted on May 6, 2024. These flights were carried out with PT-0 prototypes, which were originally not intended to be flown. The first flight of the PT-1 prototype, which is designed to be the actual flying version, is expected to take place before the end of 2025.

And yet, none of the Jets you have mentioned is a fifth-gen fighter, also they bought KAAN with indigenous engines.
Weren't there countries who ordered F-35 before the start of serial production?
Just enjoy the news and relax.
Committed to purchase yes. So had we!! From a country with proven track record of manufacturing the best planes.

I would love to be proven wrong.

This is too god to be true. Unless

1. We are not told what we are giving in return
2. The narrative is a bit lacking about the contract details. It may not be an outright purchase as it is portrayed to be.

I still withhold my point of Indonesia’s dependability.

You can not sell a fighter plane when it is not ready. It is not credible and logical for a country to buy a fighter jet when it is still being developed.
Kaan still needs extensive tests and is no where near ready as a fighter. It’s avionics, radar and structure still needs many improvements and verifications of the technologies to be used on it.
Even as a 4.5 generation plane it is not ready. Hell! Even the f110 engines’ arrival are suspect.
Domestic prototype engine manufacturing is not even started yet.
No country on earth will buy outright such an unfinished plane, no matter whoever is claiming it so!
If they said that Indonesia has been accepted as a partner in to the program who will actively help developing it and also committing to purchase 48 planes in the end. That is credible and conceivable.

Indonesia doesn’t have a very good track record. Due to non payment of their part of the Boramae project, they are at the verge of being kicked out of the program. If memory serves, they have a 7.5% stake in the program now.
They had a contract to buy SU35s from Russia. They went back on it due to Caatsa threat.
They signed a contract for Rafale purchase. Now there are news that they are cancelling it and are signing a contract for buying from Chinese stocks same number of J10Cs.
They had signed a contract with US to purchase F15EX fighters. There are news that this too is in jeopardy.

What ever contract they signed with Turkey, is not worth the paper it is written on.
As you said, this is just an MOU, which covers cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey in developing KAAN. For some reason, the Turkish media and people in the Turkish government are exaggerating this agreement, treating it as if it were a contract.

By the way, there are a few corrections to your statement above. The Rafale has not been canceled, it's already in the DA backlog and will be delivered in early 2026. Jakarta is even interested in adding a few dozen more Rafales.

As for the J-10, there is a rumor that Jakarta will purchase 42 used J-10s from China, but this has nothing to do with the Rafale. This rumor has been around since last year.

As for the SU-35, that's still a rumor, but what's certain is that the contract for this fighter jet has only been postponed, possibly while waiting for CAATSA relief.

Lastly, the F-15EX procurement is still at the MOU stage, just like the KAAN case. There is no contract yet, nor has it reached the LOA stage.

I stand corrected for the Rafale. Thanks.
You have more or less corroborated my views about the KAAN.

This is very good news, but I think everybody knows that Indonesia will not pay on time. We need to sign a solid agreement on the payment schedule.

So it is not just 48 but 60 Kaan with addition of 12 to Indonesia. I have a Turkish friend who spends half of his year in Indonesia, I bet he will be walking proud today.

why, did he work on the jet or facilitate the purchase?

Honestly, this creates a significant misunderstanding. It gives the impression that a contract is already in place, when it's clearly still at the MOU stage.

Guys are you seriously saying turkish officials made up those numbers, timelines and specifications like KAAN being delivered with turkish engines?

No, those are projected. But the legally binding contract hasn’t been signed yet.

I and many others don't give a f.... About the banner behind them. The paper they're signing could be anything else.

And yes, that is how little we believe in anything coming out of the Turkish officials mouths.

Will be too many expensive jets, they are buying 40 new 5th gens, awacs and air defense form China, they seem to have realized the immediacy of their weaknesses after recent incident and won't wait for Kaan and won't have money for it any time soo. Maybe in the future
Who is talking about soon?
First available KAAN(5th gen) for export will be in 2035.

A very good news I guess! Yet I was kind of hoping that we could find partners who could contribute to development budget as well... Seems we are still alone in the hardest part yet finding customers to a finnished product to keep the TAI bussy and and to reduce the unit cost is almost equally important I guess.
