Why not it's nice phonetically.Also the grey wolf is iconic animal of our nation.

I liked Asena much because (I may be wrong but) I expect that our main customers will be Turkic nations (and additionally I do not like to follow English name giving, look at Baykar it is not needed. If the product is good countries learn that name anyway)

Sipahi or Cebelü. They probaply will a bird name but when compoared roles in the field of aircrafts, correct is Sipahi and cebelü.

Although I love the name Fatih and I revere FSM, this isn't suitable for a global name.
I remember introducing a friend of mine with that name to another English speaking friend.
He couldn't keep a straight face. Later he told me that he thought the name was Farty.

Ufuk is another name that doesn't translate well.

Gökbörü is good and Skywolf is a great international name. Asena also makes sense. It can be used with the international name Skywolf and it comes from the Ashina clan of Gokturks.
Gökhan is also good but it is given to air-to-air ramjet missile.

I don't like Anatolian Eagle and it is already given to the airforce exercise.

Seriously though, I’ve never heard a naming custom based on names of certain geography or a historical figure. So, Fatih or Anadolu should not be considered I’m afraid.

Another point: what will be the aircraft nomenclature for air services of the Turkish Armed Forces?
Will we follow NATO designations such as, F, C, A and so on or will create our own and go with, for instance, A (avcı = fighter), T (taarruz = attack)? I, for one, prefer NATO designations. Almost universal.

And for the name, I like Kartal the best. It is also easier to pronounce phonetically in Anglophone world.

If the russians didn't get the su code it would be too easy to code... (Savaş Uçağı = Fighter Aircraft)

I think they are more like manufacturers production designation rather than a “class” designation for the aircraft such as B for bomber, F for fighter and so on

Seriously though. Phonetics wise it's the easiest choice.

Buuuuuut, if we really want to make Greeks and Armenians butthurt, we really should name it Bozkurt. Just imagine the steam coming out of them lol "hurrr grey wolves terrorrist durrr you give terrorist name to plane murica help"

Obviously it would never happen though because politics.

Actually we can use AV for coding. "for example AV-23 Asena". We say it's abbreviation of Air Vehicle but it's actually abbreviation of Avcı (means hunter in Turkish)

I don't think Asena is an appropriate name for a fighter jet. In the folk tales, Asena is characterized as a compassionate and caregiving being.
The only thing TFX is going to give is a black eye and a heaping spoonful of whoop-ass. Doesn't make sense!
