Cruise ships would prefer to pass from bosphorous, not from a man-made channel. Wait a moment, what will happen to Galata-port again another devastating cruise ship pier project by Government, how do you plan to advertise culture and tourism if those cruise ships are not passing from bosphorous and stopping by Galataport.
Be rational and consistent please.

Suez canal and Canal istanbul is different, one doesn't have an alternative natural route, while another doesn't have any other alternative route than itself.
Is there any foreseeable bloom in shipping traffic between Black-sea countries and others? Not much, the shipping traffic blooms between china-EU-US which doesn't have a proper and safe land connection. Trains are the future, yet again neglected.

How much does it make sense to gamble with 50 billion USD? I bet you can not risk your 50 lira, while for this you think it is rational to risk 50 billion dollars.

Yet we are not still discussing about natural affects which will cause in loss of marine ecosystem in marmara, tubitak, years ago did a study for this and showed it via simulations, it was the government who has requested this study, later they have classified and mummified the project to be not seen by anybody else.
Another affects: Istanbul is already a dense city, this canal and sibling towns will create another flow of multi millions of people, a worse infrastructure, bottlenecks while accessing from asia to europe, troubles on rail-ways and for everything to pass a new bridge will be needed.

It is not just you don't have time, you don't have any rational benefits.

A home port is a port where ships pick up all their guests for the cruise not only a stop port. They arrive in Istanbul airport by plane and join the ship which is their hotel. Passing through the Bosphorus has the consequence of passing again for return, that makes two times. And you give the guests two Bosphoruses instead of one with the Canal Istanbul, a more attractive proposition.

Gamble $50bn, no one will do that. Turkey is a country of construction, it is another boost to our economy like the rest of our construction sector which is the staple driving force of Turkish economy, until defense industry prevails that is.

Downsides that Canal Istanbul can possibly present are totally within our capabilities to overcome.
Istanbul is a tiny city with 15.5 million population where Tokyo is 38 million.
I want to see Istanbul hosting 25 million people and be the world capital, and not just be a museum of history.

Let's dig a big hole and pile up $65 Billion in it. Then we set it on fire.

Would be a more effective way of throwing money away.

Now your idea literally renders galata-port useless. Why pouring another multi-hundred millions on there? Care to explain?
Galata port is not just a port, it is a mall, hotel, and a port.

Moreover, in a cruise-ship journey you point is not to sit in the ship all the time, we should advertise more as a stop, so more cruise ships stop at galata port, more tourisits visits easily accessible historical peninsule and other sight-seeing points which is VERY CLOSE, to the port.
While, the istanbul airport far away from the main attractions, people will need to go back and forth after they did sight seeing.

You literally have no idea how a cruise ship thing works right? You think its just people hops in, goes around and hops off at destination and return home? People get on these to see more cities, stopping by after a few days at sea, sight seeing around while passing through landmarks.

Do you know how well organized Tokyo is, and also how depressing it is have you actually been there and seen it? Istanbul is an overly populated, disorganized city located in an earthquake zone, while we are nowhere near to Japanese in terms of earthquake safety and infastructure, moreover mindset of people.

One can't really see the benefits, especially when the Turkish government said it won't abolish the Montreaux Convention. Who would pay a fee just to save a few hours journey?

Like most of the infrasture projects done in the last decade. This one too is intended to make Erdogan's buddy contractors rich. Not investing in technology and production but pouring money in to concrete. One of the major reasons of Turkey's economic decline since 2013.

So did @Zafer , apparently still thinks it is true.
When there is smoke there is fire. It did not emerge in April. Even Egypt has projects to bypass/supplement the Suez Canal with a railroad.

You are underestimating Turkey. We could not even dream of subway lines few years back, remember.
Istanbul has plans to rank in the top few cities with the widest spreading metro network.

I live in istanbul, i have been to tokyo multiple times yet i still the enormous difference and how istanbul will end up if it grows as Erdogan has planned.
The city is failed with 15+ m population.
Wait, you did ignored the earthquake part, any comments? Going to admit Erdogan has nothing in 20 years to resolve the issue yet even deepen it by making a channel to lock 10 million people in an island like place after earthquake?

I don't have all that time and resources to list out all the benefits for you but you can do it yourself putting yourself in the shoes of the other side. There must be a reason why a government takes the hard path to do work instead of putting their legs up and sitting down and watching the world as someone else have their way with everything that touches humanity. We have many natural resources in our country and an easy way to make another precious Bosphorus is one of them.

I do not require a long list, give me 5 solid benefits is enough!

Putting myself into the shoes of other side is again a partizanship thing, my side it the Turkish state and I do not give a fuck about all the parties. For me this is not a party issue, but an existential benefit or burden for the Turkish state issue. Regardless of party a to z I would ask the same question.

For natural resources I agree completely, instead of importing Turkey has to take our her own natural resources (exactly the same with military independence).

But that has nothing to do with a canal that is to be build with foreign investors putting many commitments and guarantee requests which is like a mortgage on Turkish future.

You are not up to date about the new building codes, every building is built to withstand earthquakes.
You do not know about the transportation of the city, railroads/subways are pretty much everywhere.
Calling Istanbul failed is an insult to humanity.
There is no difficulty that we can not overcome, stop calling yourself an engineer if you think there is.

I will not do your homework.
It will bring in riches from foreign countries.
It will be easy, a very good fit with our national forte which is construction. We do not want to run out of mega projects to make, we have already completed most of the ones we have started.
There is a reason why even Tiny UAE made so many mega projects.
Turkey will be a magnet for every earthling on the face of Earth.

Becareful:
Erdogan himself has told " we have been betraying this city, and we still do" , this literally means the city have been failing.

I see a lot of your arguments that is like out of the blue, without explanation how

1) It will bring in riches from foreign countries.
One of the key points that is doubtful as it is build next to a free gateway called Bosphorus. Hoping that captains are generous enough to take the Paid way is asking too much goodwill.

2) It will be easy, a very good fit with our national forte which is construction. We do not want to run out of mega projects to make, we have already completed most of the ones we have started.

Constructing beneficial things is always good, but constructing just for not to run out of mega projects? Is that benefiting Turkey or the constructors and foreign investor?

3) There is a reason why even Tiny UAE made so many mega projects.

That's a strange argument, firstly UAE in investing her own excessive lot of money (in our case it is foreign investors with minimum passage guarantees). UAE can afford to waste resources / money, we on the other hand have to put the future of our children on mortgage, so the sum doesn't go up similar.

4) Turkey will be a magnet for every earthling on the face of Earth.

Now that you have to explain, I am very curious. People will come to Turkey to see a canal?

Thats bs,you cant name one good argument for the realization of this project.
Not one benefit.
