You can make the Bosporus narrower with your own militairy or police vessels and create traffic, you can rise the price to skyrockets, you can install naval checkpoints to delay shipment, you can hold naval excercises every week in the straits, you can sunk some old vessels to endanger traffic for security reasons etc.

That project will bring billions in long term and it's not going to waste any land or ground water. There will be a new Canal there. This is a megaproject that will create jobs for thousands of people for years. New bridges, new residential areas, public buildings such as hospitals, shopping malls and such. Because people will want to live with it's sight. Just like the Bosphorus. It will create new touristic opportunities. This canal will make a part of Istanbul an island (kinda). This will make it as prestigious as Manhattan. This canal will pay most of it's cost back in long term even if you ignore shipping incomes.

That's not pro-logic or not any type of shitty logic you're making. It's just being old-minded. There's a reason this project was in talks for decades. You think every president or other high-grades were wrong considering this project ? Or are you the one wrong ? People already have trouble buying homes but there are going to more homes, hospitals are already short staffed but there is going to be more hospitals. We have trouble keeping foreign tourist numbers up, countless hotels and resorts failed in recent years but this one canal is going to create enough to justify the cost.

It might generate some revenue just as the third bridge or Istanbul Airport makes money because they force every plane in Turkey to land there first or force every bus to cross the bridge. Number of doctors are increasing exponentially. There are 4 times the med students compared to 20 years ago. There is no short staffed situation in hospitals in terms of doctors but there is in terms of nurses. They're building hospitals as med students gradaute. Nurses are forcing interns to do their job so nurse count is not important at all.

Seawater and freshwater are coincidentally not the same thing. It is abject truth that the canal will kill Küçükçekmece lagoon and the Sazlıdere dam. Sazlıdere dam is Istanbul's second largest freshwater reservoir after Ömerli.

Bosphorus is a natural beauty of nature. I see two points clashing here. 1, that we will put all the dangerous filthy tanker traffic to the new canal. 2, people will want to live next to these filthy and dangerous ships.

I'm perplexed why this is a good thing. One thing this will surely effect is that one half of our city with nearly 10 million residents in it will now be living in an island. A large Istanbul earthquake will happen. This is not an if but when. When that earthquake happens our economy will shrink by at least 5-10 percent overnight, possibly hundreds of thousands may die and millions of people will be stuck in an island if the earthquake happens after the canal project concludes. Sending help to millions of people at that scale is a nightmare scenario in the best circumstances, and this canal would simply create bottlenecks in the form of bridges that may or may not be operational after such an earthquake.

Istanbul is already buried for future reference by that earthquake that will come, but we should build a canal to make saving lives and cleanup even harder than it needs to be. If the bad scenario happens and Istanbul is hit bad, conditions will be so bad that emergency vehicles will need to traverse the Marmara sea via Çanakkale to come to European Istanbul from Anatolia.

We dont need to invest in new houses or shopping malls. We should invest our money in high technology and industrial projects. Not for the profit of some constructors close to AKP. Now if we are not investing our own money and not able to attract foreign investment for value added projects then to create some employment, the canal project can be thought of. Well that is to be awaited, if this project is also financed in the "yap islet devret" with state guarantee of X number of ships passing yearly like all our (huge) loss making bridges and highways it will quickly become another black hole in the state budget, and for what? We cannot close the Bosphorus.

It's funny, Greeks ignore all the Lousanne agreements and happily arm the islands while Turkiye cannot even change the regulation of the Bosphorus and come with a "solution" (which I very much doubt) to build a canal. Something is very wrong there.

Even non-historical building in Bosphorus are worth multi-millions. Total worth of buildings risked by letting usage of Bosphorus in 50 years is already the cost of the program.

We can put less tariffs as you stated, if we want to make it with by good deed. However, we can choose the hard way too. We can't stop usage of Bosphorus but we still have rights on it. We can put restrictions for "safety". We already do have some restriction for safety. If a risky tanker comes by when another is already in, we make them wait, by rules. We have rights to put more such restrictions for "safety" and bring the capacity for daily ships much much less than what's needed. So there are ways to stop usage of Bosphorus without exactly stopping it. Mine is just an example. Real law makers can do far better than I do.

basically just looks like another project to "legally" extort the nation. Easy money and the Turkish tax payer can be further crippled by it. If anything the AK party era has been, its been an era of total smoke and mirrors when it comes to the economy. The entire nation got fleeced. Only when the political islamist craze has run its course will the true extent of the level of theft that took place will come to light.

Istanbul is already attracktive in every respect, not need to expand it more...
but considering the posed earthquerk risk or climate changing with all the negative potential effect on social economik conditions given due the high popolation centric on that erea, just the daily supply of millions of people with food and water in this metropol is enormes.
Invest that money in Anatolia to midigate the risk and develop the whole country in a balanced way that is both ecologically and economically better for all!

The proposal is a canal much narrow than the bosphorus and putting buildings around it, then directing the dangerous ships to there. What is the plan when there is an accident or fire on these ships?

Canal is designed like a walley. There is distance and height difference between Canal and buildings. It's not a direct coastal structure unlike the Bosphorus.
