Ok here is a german source for the news. I should have posted this instead my previous post.
Merz: Turkey is an "extremely valuable, important NATO partner"
Turkey is waiting for the green light from Germany to receive fighter jets. Friedrich Merz is not giving it yet he still sends clear words toward Ankara.
The new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, is relying on close cooperation with Turkey on defense matters. He and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte share “the firm will to continue to closely bind Turkey, as a major NATO member country, to us,” said the CDU politician during his inaugural visit to NATO in Brussels.
Turkey protects an area within NATO territory whose strategic importance “cannot be overstated,” Merz continued during a joint press conference with Rutte. “That’s why Turkey is an extremely valuable, important NATO partner for us, and I will do much and everything I can to maintain and further develop this partnership with Turkey within NATO.”
Friedrich Merz wants to accept Erdoğan's invitation
Merz also said he intends to accept an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the near future. Whether fighter jets will be approved for delivery to Turkey is still a decision the German government must make.
Turkey wants 40 Eurofighter jets. Since Germany is part of the European joint project, the fighter jets cannot be exported without the German government’s approval.
Präsident Erdogan wartet auf grünes Licht aus Deutschland für die Lieferung von Kampfjets. Das gibt Friedrich Merz nicht – und schickt trotzdem eindeutige Worte in Richtung Ankara.
