THAT place is in our only natural park / protected wildlife area... where most of the wildlife, best beaches can be found. Why the fuck they don't build it to a regular place in ANY other location ) there are lot of places to build a naval base..
All NGOs, environmentalists and all civil society will revolt.. So don't think it is about naval base or Turkey.. Besides pro-akp government collapsed and this was their last decision, if they don't re-elect (but probably they will) this will be scrapped.
Also the land is given to GKK / not TSK which is confusing. Either it will be a mutual base or GKK will re-lend it to TSK.

You know what.. my sources in the military says it will be a coast guard station to fight Illegal immigration from syria.. this Sabahattin Ismail guy is famous with this type of provocative announcements to stir up, divide and create reaction among public. I think this is a fake or provocative rumour/news.. made purposely for coming elections.
Proper logic says a Naval Base requires refueling capacity, resting places, access to resources/goods.. That place does not even have road to send fuel. It is in the wilderness. Besides, Mersin is just 70 km away.. Naval Base always thought to be build further South, in Famagusta or Iskele where fuel depots are located.

There are disgusting things happening in TRNC at the moment. A +18 video tape of Prime Minister has spread to social media an hour ago. Last week, biggest mafia boss arrested for just beating a man. Also government disbanded, we are going to early elections and scandals, illegalities, corruption, revenge at its highest point in the history. TRNC is now literally Little Turkey with all aspects.

Tatar addressed the participants at the opening of the Turkic Council Media Forum held in Istanbul with the theme of "Rooted Past, Strong Future" hosted by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications.
Congratulating all Azerbaijani people for the Karabakh victory, Tatar said, "Their victory is our victory." said.
Tatar emphasized that the victory in Karabakh, with the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is the victory of the entire Turkish world.
Pointing to the importance of the strength of the Turkic Council and the unity and solidarity of the Turkic world, Tatar said, "We are currently the representatives of the Turkic world in the Eastern Mediterranean." used the phrase.

We have built our own with Aselsan many years ago. Brits built for their bases couple of years ago as well because of Syrian immigrants coming to TRNC and trying to pass the border. Before British Area does not even have a checkpoint! (Unbelievable) it was the center of smuggling. And before covid, as Greek Cyprus does not recognize us as a country! and does not recognize the border, they had very bad checkpoints and for example they were not checking people when they cross from Greek side to North. Greenline on some places is just a garden wire where you can jump over. So after smuggling and refugee problem increased, this is not surprising.
I take this news as they are accepting the LEGAL border and division : ) it does not bother us.

Prices are changing every day in TRNC, gasoline prices are updated every week (nearly 10 lira now). 1 Liter milk also increased to 10 lira but hey we still have cheap beer, I can fill the tank with beer. (Photos taken today)
It is very tragic, as a small economy relying on tourism and imports, TRNC will soon bankrupt because of corona pandemic, and Erdogan. People here are discussing to change the currency but it looks impossible atm, we changed our currency to lira back in 80s and since then paying the price of incompetent people who are managing Turkish economy. It was another reason TRNC's self sufficient economy destroyed back in early 90s.

If the guarantee of Turkey as protector of Turkish Cypriots is given away as in the Annan Plan, then doesn't that mean that Greece also has to give away their rights as protectors of Greek Cypriots? And if not or if Turkey does not trust foreign peacekeepers to be impartial, could TRNC potentially nominate Azerbaijan as one of the parties to protect Turkish Cypriots? Let us park a thousand or so troops in Cyprus and Turkey can send an equivalent amount to make up for any shortages in Karabakh or elsewhere in Azerbaijan.
Technically it fulfills the criteria of Turkish troops no longer being on the island while still having armed and friendly faces watching your backs.
