From what I read, he is a firm advocate of federalism and is in favour of reintegrating with Greek Cyprus; the same guys who conducted a military parade recently while shouting slogans like "we will come and kill you all"

Ofcourse, this is his stance from articles that I read in pro-EU sources so it may be biased. However, when the TRNC parliament convened to adopt the 2-state solution, he didnt attend in protest (ofcourse that is according to pro-EU media so it may be biased)

As far as I can understand, all the economic woes of the TRNC got worsened since the pandemic ama the government instead of working on solutions, doubled down of what's TRNC is known for; gambling and corruption. Turkish MPs(inc Akar) going to island to campaign for Tatar, Turkish ambassador campaigning for Tatar, soured many of his own base and the turnout is abysmal. That's why new guy is saying the ambassador should be expelled, he did literally and very openly interfered in the TRNC's internal affairs.

In the end, not much will change. South Cypriot position remains the same and there's nothing anyone can do to the budge them.

Watching enough young Turkish Cypriots infected with white leftist ideals of co-existence and having short memories of what our people suffered between the 50s and 70s, and thereafter in the search of self-determination and self-rule. Talks of federation, reuniting with those who stole the Republic in '63 and drenched the ground in the blood of their mothers and grandmothers.

As for the Annan plan, back when it was up for vote, they had people at the centre stopping us from casting our votes because we were voting no. That shit was not fair or free.

Yeah, no, Cyprus won't be "united". The new leadership will use their "stance" for money from the EU, and more recognition in small increments.

Regardless, this result isn't surprising at all. Last time I visited, I didn't see a single Turk in certain areas of Lefkoşa. I also heard endless complaints about how AKP was funding Islamism, as well as "training camps" up in the mountains.

TRNC was always highly nationalistic, and I've never agreed with the minority who didn't like Türkiye's influence. But AKP did what AKP did best and spooked our population away from them. So much so, that they voted for a pro united Cyprus party...


Turkish politics needs a reset, the old Saudi-US backed Islamists need to be cleansed. Erdoğan openly said that he had Turkish nationalism in a chokehold; I think it's time that Turkish-Islamic synthesis gets banished for good. The counter force to this unfortunately has some EU loving lefties embedded in them, but I hope characters such as Özdağ, Yavaş and Dervişoğlu take charge before things go towards the complete opposite end of the spectrum.


To sum this up, this was to be expected. People are noticing Türkiye's inaction in Syria, mishandling of the refugee crisis, countless foreign policy f*ck ups and constant pushing of Islamist agenda and they're sick of it. It's not only KKTC, but also other Turkic countries that are riding this storm. And if it continues like this for another 5 years, they'll pick the EU or China, whichever benefits them the most.

This won't be good as ultimately we could expect resource wars in Central Asia if Türkiye can't act as guarantor and security partner for Turkic nations. EU, China, even Russia will play all types of games there if this nonsensical anti-Turkism and pro-PKK agenda continues in Türkiye.

There were Turks from different parts of Turkiye, kurds, people from Hatay, Adana, Trabzon, Diyarbakır who immigrated to Northern Cyprus, there were Pakistanis, Brits and Turkish Cypriots from Left and Right on the celebrations yesterday. They were united against corruption, oppression and AKP's intervention.

Federation is a Turkish side proposal since 1963, two state solution is a lie because it is outlawed by UN. Unless all UN council members become best buddies and vote to change the resolution outlawing two separate state in Cyprus, there is no way to create another independent republic in Cyprus. So if you decide to have talks with UN, Greek Side or EU you have to admit that you will talk federation (two state federation) But this federation talks are all about two separate states since 2003. 2 States one Turkish and one Greek state equally sharing rights, full control on internal borders but cooperating on international issues. Greeks are the one who does not want federation. Turkish media and politicians always lie about reality in this subject, TRNC cannot be a part of Turkiye or become a recognized country, it is outlawed by International agreements also signed by Turkiye, so only option is to continue peace talks with Greeks otherwise we face more embargoes like happening now because of the idiot who was in charge for 5 years

He is not like Akıncı neither like Tatar. Mr Erhurman is a very experienced negotiator and jurist who specialized on constitution. He defends that we need to get back to the table, talk with the world, defend our position and never let Greeks to steal the show. As Tatar was incompetent fool Greeks were playing every game they wanted to show us as the bad guys. He will talk unification and federalism on the table which is a dead end negotiation as he also say but will work to get more recognition more rights for Turkish Cypriots. Talking federalism is the only option (it always been), but leaving the table is the wrong move, defending rights of Turkish Cypriots is essential.

People from very different ideologies united behind him. Most of them against AKP's involvement and increasing corruption. We don't want intervention to our lifestyle and internal issues. AKP representative involved in a event where they tried to force a kid to enter exams in middle school with headscarf which had backfired because even the most of Turkish immigrants here are secular.

One of the most important factor that Turks from Turkiye supported Erhurman is he promised to defend their rights about free movement in whole island, people who came the island after 1974 are not allowed to pass South, also children of Turkish Cypriots and Turks (from Turkiye) are not allowed to be citizen of Cyprus Republic thus neither getting EU passports or allowed to travel. Erhurman promised to fight for their rights as well, because every small right is a gain for us in this cause to survive.

Nobody said WEST.. World or UN is not just only west. There is no losing of position, because there was no position, you were living in delusion without knowing the reality. You can't act against UN resolutions unless a superpower is making you a puppet like Taiwan. Even Taiwan is not internationally recognized. Best position we can gain is to develop get stronger and break embargoes in reality.

Tufan Erhurman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), has won the presidential election in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with 62.76% of the vote, according to preliminary results announced by the electoral authority on Sunday evening.

Erhurman defeated incumbent President Ersin Tatar, who received 35.81% of the vote.
Voter turnout in the presidential election was 64.87%, the Supreme Election Board of Northern Cyprus said.

Following the election results, Erhurman said: “Foreign policy will naturally be conducted in close consultation with Türkiye—let there be no doubt about that.”
Responding to the election results, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said: “The elections have demonstrated the maturity of the TRNC as a state and of its voters. As the motherland and guarantor country, we will continue to stand by the TRNC.”

Earlier, voting for the presidential election began on Sunday morning, with voters casting ballots from 8 am (0500GMT) to 6 pm (1500GMT) at 777 polling stations across the country. The TRNC has 218,313 eligible voters.

Incumbent President Ersin Tatar ran as an independent candidate, while Tufan Erhurman, leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), contested as his party’s nominee.

Mehmet Hasguler, Arif Salih Kirdag, Ahmet Boran, and Ibrahim Yazici also ran as independents, while Osman Zorba represented the Cyprus Socialist Party.
Huseyin Gurlek, whose name appeared on the ballot, had initially planned to run but withdrew his candidacy on Saturday in support of Ersin Tatar.

Who is Turfan Erhurman?
The newly elected president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was born in Lefkosa and completed his secondary education at Turkish Maarif College in 1988.

He received his law degree from Ankara University in 1992 and worked as a research assistant in the Department of Administrative Law, teaching courses at Ankara University, Hacettepe University, and Middle East Technical University. He earned his doctorate with a thesis on non-judicial oversight and the Ombudsman System.
Erhurman later served on drafting commissions for Türkiye’s Ombudsman Institution Law and joined the law faculties of Eastern Mediterranean University and Near East University, where he also served as deputy dean at EMU’s law faculty.

In 2005, he was part of the negotiation team that established the Immovable Property Commission under then-President Mehmet Ali Talat.
He was elected Lefkosa MP for the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) in 2013, earned the title of associate professor of law in 2014, and was named CTP secretary-general in 2015. Erhurman was elected party leader in 2016 and served as prime minister of the quadruple coalition government formed in 2018.
Fluent in English, Erhurman is married with one child.
