If it is going to have a long range Aesa radar as advertised, wouldn’t it be defeating the object by utilising a WVR missile? What can it be used to shoot? Unless it is to be configured to be used against AD missiles.
Wouldn’t it be more apt to use a BVR missile?
It is requested by SSB/Airforce. It will also help the future weapon integration process of MIUS. BVR and WVR missiles are not competing with each other they are complementing each other.

Studies started for the integration of national BVR and WVR missiles into UCAV platforms. We might see test launches from Akıncı this year. This will positively affect the Mius project.
Both BVR and WVR missiles will be used as I wrote above. It is logical to first integrate the WVR missile and then work on the BVR missile.

I guess it is cheaper to test these missiles with Akinci rather than F16, especially as they are going to be used by MIUS too.
Akinci is not a fighter jet. It just seems odd for it to have both these missiles, which are the primary air to air attack and defence weapons of a fully fledged fighter jet. But as you say, if SSB/Airforce is requesting this, then there is a good reason behind it of which I am still at a loss!

Although Akıncı is not a jet fighter it can shoot down other UAVs, helicopters, CAS/training planes and can act as a mobile air defense battery with its AESA radar and BVR missiles. Both Akıncı, Mius and F-16 Özgür will use similar radars so integrating BVR and WVR missiles on Akıncı will reduce risks and costs. Akıncı and Mius will also use similar mission computers.

Interesting take on from Anıl Şahin on the topic of minimum requirements vs real product specs. I have been frequently giving similar examples in this forum.

The minimum official requirement from SSB/Airforce for Akıncı
45k feet maximum ceiling
14-hour endurance
1000kg payload capacity.

End product specs
40k mission altitude
24-hour endurance
1500kg payload capacity.

At this point, everybody is interested in Türkiyes LHD-based drone carrier concept. Think about this MIUS based air superiority+naval attack, TB3 based recon, CAS, EW, and early warning for a fraction of the cost of a carrier and Hurjet and Atak-2 to complement this package as manned platforms. Before Japan Navantia offered us to co-design a new drone carrier based on Juan Carlos design.

Akinci UCAV has become combat proven.
It has used MAM-L ammunition with particle-effect version on ground targets.

Akıncı has 2x weapon racks for MAM-L right?
Yes it has. They are in tandem formation like the ones carried by Aksungur.

Akinci can carry 24 MAM-L missiles, in tandem form like the Aksungur.
