Buying commercial off the shelf(COTS) parts is almost always cheaper when you have the option to do so and those parts require intensive ecosystems a buyer might not have. They are cheap because they are produced for the civilian market on bulk. Cost of the system you want to make balloons up when you have to use parts you need to make yourself and produce in small numbers rather than from the civilian maker that builds 100x more than you need for your own military needs.

I believe these parts were later localized, but at what cost, i dunno.

Reasons are simple, these are subsystems of the whole design. Why would one spent long time on designing a graphic card when they are available in abundance at very good quality. We are talking here about a kamikaze drone, the base idea is quick production at the lowest price. Use COTS subsystems in your design.


But as we experienced often some groups use these "foreign subsystem" trying to get you embargoed. I don't say do not use these COTS, just make them unrecognizable (that's easier than many think)

EOTS for TF-X will probably be pretty different than Kızılelma as they have different energy and cooling budgets.

Wouldn't those part by the type of dual-use technology that gets its money back for all the research by being sold in the civilian market? let's face it selling military technology can only do so much for a nation's economy it is better to develop and manufacture stuff that is useful for civilians, not just the military.

This could be the first exploratory step in a very long and powerful partnership that could continue with TB-3 and KE.

I think the UK will follow Japan. Maybe not for Tb-2, but they definitely pay close attention to ongoing projects. They will be followed by Italy. The fact that these countries are also the developer countries of the GCAP program may have some political and military bureaucratic implications.

If I think on powerful Japanese Navy, I would prefer TB3. If they can increase power of the engine. More range, payload and speed should be possible.
